4 or 5 Star - Walking Street area or Soi 6 area????

Recommended Posts

I'm due in Pattaya for 10 days in September - my first time. Not my first time in LOS though.

I want a 4 or 5 star hotel but not family orientated - so no joiner fees! <grin :llaugh

I'm also conscious of the effect of bringing BG back in the presence of families - just not cool in my opinion.

I don't mind paying for the luxury, TB 3500 would be my ceiling price per night but obviously I don't necessarily want to spensd as much as that if I don't have to.

Also, can anyone advise me on the better option - Soi 6 area or Walking Street area? I hear good things about both but any input would be good. How long does it take to walk between the two?

Many thanks on advance for the invaluable advice.

The Marriott would be the only one in the class you are looking for in a convenient location, but I believe they are asking more than 3,500 Baht. Who knows, they might have a low season special. Check their web site. I've heard conflicting reports on whether or not it is girlfriend friendly. Some say it isn't, some say it is, and some say there is a joiner fee.

You could walk from Walking Street to Soi 6, but it would be long walk. It would be better to take a Baht Bus.

You might also want to look at the White House Condotel or the 8th and 9th floor suites at the Sandy Spring. Both are on Soi 13. They both have web sites.

Maybe the Hard Rock, which is a short walk from Soi 6 and right on Beach Rd. Never stayed there myself so not sure about their guest policy, but I remember reading a TR by a BM who brought a girl from Bangkok and stayed there. There's also a big hotel that looks like a huge cruise ship in the Soi 5/Soi 4 area (the name might be "The Ship"). Again never stayed there but it certainly looked like a high end place.

My Advice...

Just find the best looking hotel (read the reviews) for what you are looking for.

Location is not too important... there are fun places everywhere in town and the Baht Bus is so cheap it really wont matter. I usually like to explore so end up all over the place anyway.

So .. basicly anywhere from soi 2 to Walking Street and between Beach Road and 2nd Road is a good place. Soi 13 is usually considered in the middle and a good central location. The Soi Buckaow area is fun but I dont think it is quite as easy to get around.

Hi, in my opinion the more stars a place has or claims to have the less they like Mongers ,as far as I am aware all the "classy" places in Pattaya want you to pay extra for joiners.Try almost any of the soi 13 hotels they are all in their way very comfy and all are good to go as far a guests are concerned.

LK Metropole…

3000 day/ 19500 week for a one bedroom suite with the FLB rate. Includes breakfast in the restaurant any time of the day. Very guest friendly. Location is very central and moto taxi stand at the end of the entrance. Excellent gym.

Maybe check out the Sabai Resort or the Sabai lodge Ruen Thai room on soi2. Also check out a map of Pattaya on the web to get your bearings on the location of the Hotel and take the advise of other BM's take the baht bus it travel right around beach road and second road> No problems get to Soi 6 and back.

The Sheraton Resort is likely the only five start resort in Pattaya and that's a LONG WALK from Walking Street! 2guns

Do make use of the hotel review section before you make any decisions (especially about Diamond Beach Hotel!) :D

The A-1 Royal Cruise Hotel on Soi 3 is definitely not guest friendly.

Primarily focused toward asian tour groups and their karaoke is too darn loud!

But they do have a nice buffet and a good gym.

Can't say what I'd like to say since this discussion is in the open forum, but re-examine your priorities before you spend a ton of money on a hotel room is all I could suggest.

Thanks Sa-teef, that's the one. Walked by it a dozen times. 1luv

I think "4-5 star" and "guest friendly" are mutually exclusive terms in Pattaya. As someone else mentioned, there are plenty of very nice Western style hotels in Pattaya that are guest friendly, but you may have to forego a star or two.

Maybe the best suggestion so far. I love that area of town, but BMs who want to spend alot of time on Walking Street might disagree with it being centrally located.

I consider access to Walking St a major qualification for any place I would stay, and Walking St is quite easily accessible from the LK Metropole. A 50 yard walk to Soi Buakhao, 1 minute wait for a baht bus, then dropped off within a block of the beginning of Walking St. I've been doing it for over 2 years now, and it's never an issue. Of course, if I'm feeling lucky, I take the motorbike, and that's an easy trip too. It's just the return trip that can get a bit dicey. :D

Also, the new Mantra Pura Resort (3rd Road and Pattaya North), while not easily accessible to Walking St or Soi 6, is guest friendly and is quite luxurious.

I agree. Soi Bhuakow to Walking Street is an easy and quick run in the early evening. Actually faster I think than Beach Road because the traffic backs up on Beach Road so much. I follow Second Road/Soi Diana on the way back if I'm on two wheels because I can stay in the righthand lane and make a right turn on to Soi Diana. All those storm drains on Pattaya Tai give me the creeps in the early hours and too many wild and crazy motodops headed for the chinese market.

If you charter a bahtbus that's the way they go nearly every time as well, so it must be faster that time of night? :banana

I can't believe no one has mentioned Queen Victoria's Jasmine Suite

I know that it's not a 4 - 5 star hotel, but it sure looks like a damn fine room to stay in. Plus, it's right on Soi 6!
