So friday they tell us at work "things are slow, we're going to lay everybody off over xmas and New Years"

so I think great, I'll get a couple extra weeks in LOS

so I look up prices from MSP to BKK leaving anytime after DEC 21 and returning by 6 Jan 08 and I find nothing less than $2200 USD round trip

so I figure I'll add a weeks vaction on, should be cheaper

so I start looking MSP-BKK anytime after 21 DEC retuning before 13 Jan 08

same shit 2-5kUSD

best price I can come up with is if I leave 28DEC (loose a whole week) and come back 12 JAN 08 for $1800 all in.

HELP

thinking of trying Sigapore or fights from the coast, even if I have to drive to San Fran or NY, NY

Flight are pricey leading into Christmas, especially this close to the holiday. Your best bet is to fly from a big airport like SFO and check the prices for low-cost airlines like EVA or China Air. Maybe call a consolidator to see if you can find a good price.
