£481.90 inc taxes - economy of course. It's one of these "don't even think about changing it" fares, but a really good price.

 

A winner I think.

 

It IS their old 747 but as I try to sleep anyway I don't really care.

 

 

198 days to go (and I've already worked that out - sad isn't it ).

 

Been home 10 days and this is the best cure for post-trip depression I've found - book the next trip.

Even if it is the 'old 747', they have had a re-furb! I think Eva are great personally, prefer them to Thai Airways! Plus its a great price!

The interiors of the 747s have been revamped and are now the same as the 777s.

£481.90.....That is a bloody good price BB.Best direct return flights I can find with EVA AIR for Jan/Feb 2009 is £614 on Airline Newtork or £616 with EBookers .Trying the same dates on the EVA AIR web site the price shown is £684.

Wait, I think you're thinking of booking far too early.

 

In my experience WestEast travel and all the others normally show their deals about 1-3 months before, ie if you want to fly in Feb or March 2009 book in Jan/Feb. Assuming that taxes don't go up nor oil you should be able to get around £425 to £450 this is what I've been getting for the last 2-3 years from them.

Thanks RR but I believe it essential to get flights established before booking hotel dates.In my case I prefer to stay at Residence Garden which is usually well booked up months in advance.So it's case of playing one off against the other.So if I have to pay a few quid more to get flights/hotel established well in advance I guess that's the price I have to pay.Theres no problem getting a non direct flight for around £450 with Emirates,or any of the middle eastern airlines at the times we are talking about but I much prefer the direct route and pay the price.Thanks for your input

The Eva air web site price is very good, also good at the moment is opodo.co.uk, but it will depend on travel dates.

I just put in a couple for June and it is £465 inc tax, but that is H class with no miles. I need a mileage class and the Eva air web site is U class, 80% miles.

Westeast have a price promise so I am just waiting for them to get back to me, maybe get free coach travel with them.

 

Don't worry about the 747s, inside the spec is the same as the 777, kick the tyres and light the fires

There are 3 things I need; time off work, a flight, and somewhere to stay.

I start with booking the time off work, if I can't get that, it's a show-stopper. Because I do that early BEFORE my previous trip, I can book accommodation during that trip - it's nice to have actually seen the place and I can pay a deposit in cash, no CC's over the net for me! Then it's only a flight to book, I start looking early just in case (like this time) there are some good deals out there. I wouldn't actually worry about not having one booked until the last 2 or 3 months, but it's nice to have it done well in advance. As I live in Cornwall, not all planes work for me; this is a nice place to live but getting to Heathrow/Gatwick on public transport is a bitch - I can't get there before 11:00 and, if a plane lands after 16:00, I can't get home. This trip I plan to use the sleeper on the return leg, but it doesn't run every night.

Some of the travel agents give you free National Express coach tickets to LHR, not sure of the service from Penzance or Plymouth though, maybe you would have to change coaches in London.

Thanks Gus but I didn't use a travel agent - booked with Eva directly. Also, I don't really fit on a National Express coach, as well as being fat, I'm 6'3" tall. For me public transport is trains, the sleeper should let me go in to work when I get home.

Brian, me nearly same same, the coach sucks unless you can have 2 seats for yourself. Then usually a non brit in front of you reclines their seat all the way back.

 

The Heathrow Express to Paddington is a rip off, but there also is the Heathrow Connect which is a lot cheaper but stops a couple of times on the way to Padd.

Thanks Gus, I've been looking at the Heathrow Connect. I don't think it was in place last time I travelled via Paddington - 10 minutes longer/£10 cheaper? I'll take that!

 

If you want to talk about a rip off, how about no return rail tickets if you're going to be away for over 4 weeks! You have to buy 2 singles.
