Bring me the head of Peter Norton!!

You can download AVG here:

The home page is

I do agree that NOT using Norton is almost as bad as using it. The problems uninstalling this horrible program are already Internet legend.

Yes agreed, I am still finding bits of it. I got the AVG loaded (Hippo), and Spybot as well........had to go find me a better internet connection than what I use at home.

Anything else that would make my notebook safe as houses?

Seems that you did not use the Norton Removal Tool.

No, I read some 'read me' file that said uninstall it using the Windows Program Removal Tool. I only removed Norton and some time later found a Semantics Update program (that claimed to be required by another unidentified program) but I went ahead and uninstalled that too. My computer seems to be working OK and I feel there could be a risk using the program at the above link

Were you running ZoneAlarm for XP i.e Version 7.0**** or ZoneAlarm for Vista i.e. Version 7.1******?

Zone Alarm for Vista. I installed sp1 and the True Vector would not load. It's all better now, the fix is in and the latest download from ZA works fine.

Commodo sucks donkey balls. I loaded it when Zone Alarm stopped working and it was the most frustrating piece of shit i have ever used.

A little patience, mykl. It learns.

I am currently not much happy with any software firewall, truth be told. Glad I switched from modem to router, frankly.

I don't need to be patient. It's gone and will never come anywhere near my computer again. The problem is it DOES'NT learn.

Just one example. Installing AVG upgrade. Even after classifying it as an installer I had to click through a total of 30+ times. And then it would not let the updater run no matter how many times I told it to accept and remember. Another example. When you change to install mode you get a message asking if you want to change to install mode. Duh. Then you get a message every thirty seconds telling you that you are in install mode and asking if you want to change back to normal. This is while the installer you said was ok to run is still running. Again, DUH fucking DUH. It's a POS.
