Dr. Mick

I made the trip to Khon Kean with my TGF back in Dec 2006. She said we could stay at the Sofitel. Went to check in at the Sofitel and the only room they had available was 3300bht (convention was in town) :banghead . Had a load of luggage and decided to check in and told the TGF we go look for another hotel and change tomorrow. Sofitel was very nice but, not worth the money IMO.

Found the Kosa Hotel just down the road for 1000bht w/American Breakfast(ABF) and decided to reserve a room. While walking around one night, found a sign for the Charoen Thani Pricess Hotel, next to Kosa Hotel, advertising 799bht w/NO ABF.

The Kosa was a nice hotel. A newer shopping mall out the front door accross the street. The ABF was not all that great. I would recommend telling them you don't want the (ABF) and get a cheaper rate.

You can probably find cheaper hotels around town. But, these 3 hotels seem to be the major ones in that central location.

If you are flying, most hotels have a free shuttle van or bus pickup at the airport to take you to their hotel. You'll have to pay a small fee for them to shuttle you back to the airport :clap2 .

Have a great trip...

last trip to CM I stayed at the hotel Porn Ping, there is a disco in the basement and a concert club on the first floor. ran me 800 baht a night and was worth it.

Spicy Spicy is the place to go after the bars close, it somehow stays open until early AM.

yes porn ping is good too. closer to the night market than Montri. Montri is closer to spicy. spicy has a bit of a bar scene from star wars feel.

I am in chaing mai for 3 days as of now. can update as i go.

I agree, Spicy reminded me of the way the old Thermae in BKK used to be before it was overrun with high paying Japanese and GFE girls were driven away..

Spicy is a must if you visit CM, but remember not all girls there are 'available'..

Dr Mick,

I would recommend Sofitel as far superior to the other two main ones, but the Charoen Thani is nice also and about 1300 baht a night so not too bad.

All three are centrally located and next to most of the expat bars

Khon kaen i stayed at Sofitel for 1900bht booked online via a hotel booking site. Great value for the money and excellent location.

Chiang Mai i stayed at the Raming Lodge and paid 1000bht booked online too. Great location near lots of beer bars but not noisy and also walking distance to the night market

Right now can't remember the name of the booking site i used. Will update this thread if i find it otherwise try a google search for online discount hotel booking site.

I agree that the Raming Lodge is in great spot. Walked past it about 20 mins ago. Just have to see what works with you budget. I think you will be here in the middle of low season Dr Mick so shouldnt be a problem.

Thanks a lot ,I was thinking booking Raming Lodge ,seen it on a web site looks good

but best price i can see on their web site is 1850 bhts night

So if you could let me know what site you used it would be great if i can get cheaper

Also like the name :D

Think stop 3 days in city Raming lodge if available also 2 nights out of city in hol village

seen 2 which look great on the web ,anybody been to these.

The Field Village or Fern Paradise

So my full trip im trying to plan is

Sat 21st June ,5 nights in Khon Kean

Thur 26 June 1 night to Undon Thani ,then fly out on fri with Nok Air

Fri 27June Chaing Mia City Hotel for 3 nights

Mon 30 June Chaing Mia Hol Village for 2/3 nights

Thur 3rd July 3 nights in Pattaya with out my lady :banghead

Well thats the plan but we all know about making plans.

Main reason of this trip is looking at houses which i could rent when I move out to live in

Thailand this coming September

Seems like a few options for Raming Lodge

latestays.com

agodo.com

asiarooms.com

hotelscombined.com

although which room class is provided for the price is occasionally confusing. Room class vs twin/double bed is also unclear.

Since I'm also looking at a stay in CNX, I'm interested in the responses.

bestmate, is the hotel GF? Even if I book a double?

I'm looking for something GF, Queen/King bed, In-Room digital safe, LAN/WIFI, central-ish tho it looks like CNX isn't too big so I suppose 10 minutes from night market covers a bit. 100THB would be good, tho 1000 is probably more reasonable, may be worth paying a bit more to bundle LAN/WIFI. Ultimately only staying 3 nights, so room rate doesn't multiply too badly.

I was with my Tilac in Chiang Mai recently...

We stayed at the Baan Orapin... a very nice place. They have a small pool that is very nice. It is not close to beer bars but I was not concerned about that. The staff is great and I would recommend it. Rates are probably on the top end of your budget.

Do a search on the internet.
