OK, I will have to bite the bullet soon (so to speak) and have a new partial plate made. This will cost approx US$750, say 24500 baht.

Has anyone had a plate made whilst staying in Pattaya? If so how was the service, quality and price please.

You might want to consider implants, which are being well promoted here. A lot more money than you are talking, and a longer, more intensive, treatment duration.

Are you currently using a plate? They area pain and I threw mine and had some bridgework done.

I think implants are about 40,000 baht/tooth. More involved jobs, like replacing several teeth on say 2-3 implants, well heading towards 100,000 baht and up.

I had 2 implants done in Pattaya and all I can say is......have your home country dentist advise you on the "doability" of implants before you plunk down some baht.

They are not for everyone......there must be sufficient bone to support the implant.

If you have any bone loss due to past or present gum problems......beware ok?

Are you saying that someplace in Pattaya they went ahead, and made implants for you, when the reality was you were unsuitable? Might be worth warning somebody off .... I have certainly seen this promoted a lot lately, by very cute girls who speak good English! Or is that View Talay 2417? Edited by jacko

I have just received a quote from Pattaya International Hospital for a 4 tooth bridge

Hello Mr. Grogmonster

The price of 4-unit bridges is about 37,000 - 58,000 bath (price is up to the type of metal substructure)

- base metal = 9,000 - 10,000 / unit

- palladium = 11,000 - 13,000 / unit

- gold 52% = 13,000 - 15,000 / unit

- gold 85% = 15,000 - 16,500 / unit

Best Reguards

I've had plenty of dental work done at Pattaya International, Soi 4, by Dr Sornram Buddhachart. All good stuff at sensible prices compared with UK (and no doubt USA). He put me in touch with implant specialist Dr Kittichote Boonsri, who spoke to me about it without charge. He comes from Bangkok every Sunday. They certainly check the bone structure for suitability - they've just done a "panoramic X-ray" to check out the whole mouth, not just the site of the proposed implant. I've not taken the plunge yet, but I might be back in November for the implant. Cheaper than UK, But still not cheap - at Pat Int they quote B75,000 for the two-stage process, half at a time.

It might be worth checking up on if the prices are the same in Pattaya and Bangkok, I have a slight feeling that they might be a bit cheaper in Bangkok. :clap2

My advise would be to check different dentists that you find on the Internet and then take your time to walk over to the places that you favour and check them out in person. :clap2

It might take some time but it is probably worth it in the long run. Good luck. :P

Yes Jacko......Pattaya Dental Clinic....

There are two offices.....one on soi 3, and the main office on Therrapasit.... a bit south of the Resident Garden....on the right going to Jomtien.

The soi 3 office does only veneers and other work.....the main office does the implants.

The older male dentist took xrays....a couple of views, and told me "yes you have plenty of bone to support these implants" Based on this....I went ahead with the two upper incisor implants.

It's a very uncomfortable experience!!!! First he has to yank out the loose teeth.....let that heal up for a few days.....then drill into the bone for the implant device......then more waiting for those to "osseointegrate"

http://medical.merriam-webster.com/medical/osseointegrated

To make a long story short.....when I went back home to California, and after dealing with very loose implants...they actually "fell" right out!!! I shit you not!!!!..the CA doctor took more xrays and confirmed NOT enough bone.

I sent numerous emails to the Thai doctor, even including the CA dentists findings and his write up about the sure failure of this procedure.

This Thai doctor told me he honors all problems and will fix it.

Well.....this is all well and good but I tried to explain to him.....the implants were doomed to failure from the get go without sufficient bone.

He then told me it was my fault....I did not use caution when eating etc etc.

Bottom line.....I am out 70,000 baht and have the implants in a zip lock bag neatly packed in a dresser drawer!!!!

Consequently, I feel this Thai doctor was unethical......he should have just been upfront and told me that implants were not feasible......nope.....he took a short time tourists money and ran with it!!!!

My CA dentist told me flat out......."you were not a good candidate for implants due to loss of bone in the upper jaw" He went on further to say....."I would not have done this....no matter how much money I could have made"......"it's called ethics"

So this CA doctor repacked the missing tooth sockets with synthetic bone, made a temporary plate to replace the two missing teeth......to the tune of $1100 USD!!!!

The clinic on Soi 3 is fine.....the lady dentist (stunner I might add) was very nice and did a very nice job with 4 veeners......at $100 USD each.

You will find Kittichote at the BIDC Cost of Implant and Crown including Xrays: 65,000 baht.

..........cut.........

I guess you mean on Thrappaya, which goes from the RG to Jomtiem beach. :drunk

Thanks for sharing this, everyone's nightmare when having involved procedures done overseas. Imagine this doctor performing eye operations. As you said, you suffered an expensive and uncomfortable procedure to be ultimately left worse off!

Will you have an opportunity to revisit this unethical doctor and confront him with the implants? Or perhaps throw them in his face?

And very dissapointing to be faced with such an attitude from an educated professional, that he can do no wrong, and by his evaluation, it was your mistake to use these teeth to eat with! :banana What is the final position on this, since teeth are gone and underlying bone messed up, a lifetime of gaps or annoying plates in your mouth? :bj2

Thanks everyone. I have zero interest in implants (Too long in the tooth!) and I am only really looking for someone to make me a lightweight plate in a few days. This has however given me some assistance in my search.
