White Orchid or Rajah Mansion in Bangkok.

Recommended Posts

Hi.

I will be on a budget next year traveling to Bangkok. There are 2 budget hotels on Sukhumvit Soi 4(Nana Tai) Rd that meet my price range.

1. White Orchid Inn

2. Rajah Mansion

I realize you get what you pay for, but hopefully they are not too much of a dump.

Does anyone have any experience or information regarding the accommodations of these 2 places.

Thanks.

TC

1. There is a White Orchid Hotel in Chinatown (that's a long, long way from Suk Soi 4), but never heard of the White Orchid Inn.

2. Rajah Mansion is a dump - stock up on roach spray and traps if you do stay there. It even gets panned on LonelyPlanet, so you can imagine how bad it is. There are many reports that they don't ever return the security deposit, so figure that into the real cost of the monthly rent.

If you are staying a month or more in Bangkok, the best idea is to book a hotel room for one or two days, then look for a long-term room while on site. Many L/T budget rooms/apartments are never advertised on the Internet. It's always best to see what you'll be getting if you plan on staying a month.

Rajah Mansion is same address as Raja Hotel (shithole) which is to be avoided!

Think a mate stayed at the White Orchid Inn (not to be confused with the White Orchid Hotel in China Town) and said it was ok. This is the same little soi where the Nap Inn is located???

There are several other places - bars with rooms above - along Soi 4. These fill up fast given the prices for the location.

The place on Soi Nana that you are referring to is the WHITE LODGE, not White Orchid, which is in Chinatown.

I don't know anyone who knows anything about the White Lodge but it looks okay with the faux British architecture. You'll never know until you stay there.

I stayed at Rajah Mansion last month. The price was very cheap, only 11000 ฿ per month. I think it's a very nice mansion. Good place to live!! only 5-10 mins to the BTS. I also didn't have any problems with my security deposit. They returned me all after they cut electricity and water which were not expensive. You guys should try it!! believe me.

This directly contradicts every post I have seen regarding the Rajah in the last two or three years. I've walked past it and the place certainly looks like a dump from the outside. The Majestic Suites, Dynasty Inn or even the Nana would be better choices.

Asked one of the bar managers at the Nana Plaza about the Rajah. Dont go there was his response but personally I have not stayed there.

I don't see anything bad about Rajah Mansion anymore. It looks nice and clean. I've been there many times. Before it might looked so-so but now, it has changed to a better way. I don't know why you guys have so many problems with Rajah Mansion. I'm sure that Rajah mansion is a good. So, I will always choose Rajah Mansion for my 1 month-stay.

I guess people think there is something strange about a new member digging up a two year old thread and making a glowing recommendation for a hotel which most people have considered an utter dump for at least the last decade. It certainly was a dump last year when I walked past it.
