It was a great comic strip!

It ran for 10 years from 1985-1995. The creator/writer, Bill Watterson, started off his career as a political cartoonist. He basically retired after ending the comic strip, and leads a very private life. He doesn't even license Calvin and Hobbes merchandise for marketing, although he has released the comic strips in anthologies.
