Would anyone know the location of the VFW here in Pattaya? and if so how to get there from soi chiapoom.

here you go ....... alternatively just pop into any bar on Soi Post Office and there's a fair bet you'll bump into some Ex-Green Berets, Navy Seals, SAS, Paras or Foreign Legionnaires.

As an aside .... why is it called The Veterans of Foreign Wars? Why not just War Veterans?

In all seriousness, I THINK it's because of the US civil war - whose veterans could not join back when the VFW was formed and they were alive. The specific qualification here is being in a war outside the US - although I think it's now reduced to being in the military during a time of warfare (not literally declared "war" of course since America has so very, very few of those) and may be less than that for all I know. There is another military veterans' group, the American Legion, which does not have that "foreign" qualification.

Important to note that neither of these has any legal status beyond taxes and the like. They are completely independent, private clubs able to make their own rules. There is no legal group of military veterans in the US.

I was hoping for an American Legion branch.

Thanks for the info.. as to what the VFW is .. here goes.. it is american veterans fraternal organization.... It was formed after WW 1. It is alegal organization with a Congressional charter to represent Veterans in their quest for benifits from the Veterans Adiministration. They aren't very succesful at it. To join the Verterans of Foreign wars, you had to serve in a war zone. Also have to prove campain medals and any award for valor. It basically a membership drinking club.... as side note.... Pattaya has had a post since I think 1971.

Hope that clears up the confusion.... Mike
