I stayed at this hotel, located on the corner of Soi Moo and Soi 11 2nd Road in February this year at the recommendation of a mate. However, if I had not already paid in advance I would have decamped after a couple of nights.

It was shithouse with a very indifferent maid service, rotten bed linen, which should all be thrown out and replaced, dodgy front desk staff - all smiles, but ready to rip you off at the slightest opportunity - particularly as regards the minibar and the in-house internet service.

With so many other accomodation options in Pattaya, do not bother with this dump or any of the other Sawasdee hotels in Pattaya or anywhere in Thailand. They have about 20 hotels in the country - avoid them all.

Whilst I sympathise with your poor service I question just WHY anybody would pay in ADVANCE for any accomodation in Pattaya without having stayed there previously! <grin :leaving :D

As pointed out it was recommended and at peak times in the past accommodation is not always as easy to find when you are hauling a suitcase about. Sometimes its just easier to book in advance.

I tend to book 2 maybe 3 days in advance unless I am staying for a complete month. This way it gives me the chance to check about for a decent deal :)

Sawasdee chain is run down and I had a very similar experience with the one in Diana! Shit hole, crap air con and the front desk were con merchants!

Concur 100% steer clear

I stayed there in Feb this year.

It's basic but adequate for what's needed. Bed was decent enough, towels were pretty ropey though.

No shower curtain meant you had to make sure the bog roll was outside the door so it didn't get drenched.

Staff, although polite, were always looking for a way to make money out of you.

The maids came everyday and left two bottles of water in the fridge, which was good, but the fridge had two tempretures, warm or frozen solid.

I doubt i would stay again as there is better and cheaper places for me to go, but as it was my first visit to Thailand i'd booked and paid in advance.

Anyone with suggestions for a hotel/serviced apartment for my next trip in may/june for three weeks ?

Thanks.

He'll get back to you no doubt, once that tiny space between his eyes has managed to make sense of these two concepts. :flames:

If you want a “hotel” try;

http://www.sunviewplacepattaya.com/

http://opeydeplacepattaya.com/

Both very similar in price and facilities both recommended.

Another small hotel;

http://www.jasminemansion.com/site/

Or try a guest house “room above a bar” many to be found with a quick search on here but a couple of my favourites are;

http://www.metro-apartments-pattaya.com/

http://www.queenvictoria-inn.com/

Also trying this place on my next trip but only have a few reports to go on but nothing ventured nothing gained.

http://www.liquidloungepattaya.com/home.html

You’ll notice that most of these are around the soi LK/Buakhao area IMO a very good area with all you need at reasonable prices and very easy to travel to other areas

All do discounts for longer stays and all are guest friendly

But those Sawadee ones start at something like Bt250 or so per day so what do you expect ?

Most of the sub Bt500 are utter shit.

Decency starts around the Bt700 level, up or down depending on season.

In balance for the much maligned Siam Sawasdee, I have in fact stayed there over several years at times when in serious budget mood, and yes of the chain it's the best one of the offerings so the others must be.. well... not sure...

Yes it's cheap (ish) tho the walk in and net rates dont make it seem so esp in high season.. but I've bargained those down to about 600bt a night on most occasions for a stay. I have stayed there a good few times now, 05, 06, and 08 at various times, not always for my entire stay, Dec and May. It is what it is, a simple old chain hotel but I have to say in all defence I've never had a problem there apart from the year that damned music stage was behind the hotel on that wastegroundby the markets and the noise was awful then for one week.

I have often read some truly yucko reviews really hating this old hotel and bearing in mind I otherwise stay at Areca Lodge which is 1200-1800 range, I do know Siam Sawasdee is basic but I've never had any of these awful events. The rooms are flimsy, battered but cleaned daily, the design is old fashioned but white, bathrooms simple but work, and other than some noise, and the cranky slow lifts, its been a no-nonsense cheapo stay which allowed me to spend more money on fun. I don't eat there except the buffet breakfast which is basic but boring after too many days, take it , leave it, days vary. I have never experienced poor service, nor reception problems, payment issues, or anything else to be honest and the staff have always been busy but friendly and helpful. Maybe its me. The Tour Desk in the reception has organised me some cheap day trips and taxis and it's exactly in the right place. It even has a decent enough pool which gets sun from 6am. Call me naiive but maybe I am not so fussy on my stays, as I don't expect it to be the same as Areca or a quality rooming house like Metro Apartments or others. It's what it is, an old era but functional busily occupied budget hotel like a thai travelodge gone to seed. Very superceded by many new offerings I am sure but I have a fondness for it and can't complain. I have often sat at the cocktail car on the front and it feels fine to me. It's a lilac shade tower with an old fashioned interior, like a faded old Miami hotel. I may even be there again this May but fancy a look around or trying one or two of the guesthouses and moving about a bit. I noticed The Cap's did this last year and they seemed to enjoy the changes.

Actually the worst thing about staying there is the (in my own personal opinion) awful bar right opposite, a den of over loud out of tune bands and distorted music which if you stay on the front facing rooms goes on till 2am, and is the only place I have regularly seen and heard screaming drunken fights (always the english..) that spill out onto the street.
