Ryanair considers stools on flights

Budget airline Ryanair has come up with a possible new cost-cutting measure in the form of stools rather than seats on flights.

The Irish no-frills carrier is looking at the possibility of increasing capacity on flights by getting some passengers to squat on stools.

These passengers would pay less than those in "normal" seats or possibly fly for free.

Ryanair spokesman Stephen McNamara said that the airline's chief executive Michael O'Leary had already been in touch with aircraft manufacturer Boeing to see if such a scheme was feasible.

Mr McNamara said: "If it's possible, if we can get the IAA (Irish Aviation Authority) to approve it and if it can reduce fares even further we will be doing it."

Mr O'Leary told Sky News that he got the idea from the Chinese airline Spring, which said it could squeeze 50% more passengers on board and cut costs by 20%.

I was amused by his comment that 'you have people standing on trains and the underground, so what is the difference?'.......

This is yet another PR stunt by the egomaniac Michael O'Leary to boost his RyanAir company.

A few weeks ago he was promoting his future plans to charge passengers to use the toilet @ £1 a time. (in flight!)

What is it with these airline bosses that they are obsessed with getting their faces on the media. Branson etc!!

cheers

rogero

I'd be happy sitting on the floor too. Nothing worse that being stuck in a seat next to some fat smelly farang for 12 hrs.
Yes there is........

I was stuck next to a Korean once and as some know they like garlic, boy did he stink, I was ready to throw up!

Thais can have their food related odours too, particularly noticeable if you haven't been eating Thai. They just complain about others body odour, but I have found they aren't particularly receptive to similar critique!

I think you'll find that if economy spacing had not already been introduced, it would not be allowed now as it is too small. You cannot have people standing but I think there would be scope for them lying down in a sort of bunk bed system.
