Crazy Baht Bus drivers - your story?

So we hop a Baht Bus from Jomtien to WS with the usual afternoon traffic and crazy moterbikes zipping around everywhere. I happen to glance down through the back window and notice the driver is not only “steering” with his knees, he has his head down and is intently concentrating on some mesmerizing task that requires not only both hands, but apparently his full, undivided attention that couldn’t be bothered with such distractions as actually looking out the windshield.

 

What is this urgent, fascinating task you ask? Apparently he decided that driving through heavy traffic was the ideal time to roll a cigarette.

 

Oops, we hit bump in the road and he’s spilled his tobacco.

 

He now has his head down BELOW the steering wheel while he meticulously picks up every precious shred of brown heaven.

 

Eventually satisfied that he has retrieved all his precious puff from the seat (but not before also carefully inspecting his shirt for any strays), he resumes rolling his cigarette. At least at this point he now has his wrists in periodic contact with the steering wheel while he completes the process and lights up with a true sigh of satisfaction.

 

Finally a brief glance forward to confirm he hasn’t hit anything too large yet. Life is good…

 

Meanwhile I’m frantically looking for a parachute...

 

Anyone else with some interesting Baht Bus stories to add?

Sorry but not had one problem in 6 years,including motorbike too.

 

Thats why you dont hear of the safe stories,even though i have been on them 1000,s of times,they are too boring.

Well he only got 5 replies last time....which is the same number that he has got so far.

Now, now, this is a supporing thread for my other comment on the "A thai family on a motorbike" thead - basically underscoring my point that it doesn't matter how skilled one may be on a bike when you have so many crazy Thai drivers around you.

 

I did actually search for my original thread first, but the search function seems to have inconsistent results and couldn't find my OP.

 

So, if nothing else, you can consider this a public service posting

As you took my snide remark so well I think I will give you a thumbs up.

Made it to Pattaya and back without getting killed or rained on yesterday on the motorcycle..... but was waiting at the junction of 36/Sukumvit. The way these trucks come hurtling off 36 and swing left infront of coaches and trucks and bikes doing quite a speed, I wonder if the ditches at the road edge are for rainwater or blood!
