Start of New Meter Taxies in Khon Kaen

Recommended Posts

Well this is a first for Khon Kaen I think ,2 weeks ago 30 new Meter Taxies arrived in Khon Kaen

To my suprise when I rang my Tuk Tuk driver up he arrived in a new Meter Taxi

He tells me that there is now 30 new taxies in Khon Kaen now.

Well the journey I made ,in which i have made many times in tuk tuk,in the past i paid 100 bhts

but to my suprise the meter taxi price showed only 60 bhts.

But as I use this driver many times and comes to pick me up at my house I did give him 100bhts

The good thing now is when my mates fly to Khon Kaen airport a meter taxi can now be booked ,so the costs

to city should be cheaper than using the private car drivers

Also in the raining season will be better using these taxies than tuk tuk

Think its the same ,set by goverment license taxi company

Just wondered as the mafia got hold of the Pattaya concession and turned it into a private hire rip off with no meters. Surely meter taxis have to be the way forward in nearly all places.

Quite the reason I asked about using the meter in KK. We all know that the Pattaya meter taxis are just for show so the baht bus mafia can claim there are taxis but perhaps some day, as happened in Bangkok, change can be effected and if other provincial towns are running a proper meter taxi service according to the rules, then pressure will mount for pattaya to do the same and take away control of meter taxis from the mafia.

The biggest rip-off I have seen are the tuk-tuks in Phuket.

Used one.... once. 200bt to go about 1km in the rain. The little mafia bastards should be outlawed.

I wonder how my insurance would be if I got injured in one of these death machines?

Patong would be perfect for a baht bus system.

When you think you can get a nice air conditioned Camry to take you all the way to the airport for about Bt400 !

The phone number for the Khon Kaen taxi dispatcher is 1584. Reportedly there is an additional 30 baht fee on top of the meter charge for pickup service.

That is correct ,i noticed he put 30 bhts on when he picked me up.

Just used my Taxi man to take me and my Thai lady

to wedding ,whwhere we was stoping was 45 kilo meters past Rio Et.

think distance was 160 kilo meters ,took about 2 1/2 hours.

I was just going to catch Taxi to Khon Kaen bus station ,but Taxi ask where we was going ,then he said he would take

us for 1200 bhts ,I said i would pay 1000 bhts ,he said ok.

But after journey ,which he drived very safe and not too fast ,I gave him 1100 bhts.

For Info back home today and used buses to get back ,journey time about 3 1/2 hours cost us

80 bhts first bus ,150 bhts second bus and 100 bhts for tuk tuk to our house ,total cost 330 bhts.
