That sounds like thievery to me. I'll cross that place off my list as a possible place to stay.

Maybe someone should start a "Pattaya Black List." Keep a list of all the businesses that rip off customers.

Those extras that are not mentioned until you are in,are indeed annoying.

I was told x$,which was ok,then I noticed after a day or two, that they charge an extra 5% if you pay by card, not mentioned in any correspondence.

If you do not ask these questions when staying on a monthly basis at a reduced rate then IMHO you are asking for trouble.ALWAYS ask Electric/Water rate, on booking in and only pay if completely satisfied! Most importantly of all, read the METER, upon arrival and at least every other day, if you fail to do this then there is only 1 person to blame and that is yourself!

Unless you have never stayed at somewhere before, again it's best to book in only for a couple of days initially and sound them out before committing to a Monthly up front payment!

Unfortunately tales like these seem to be on the increase lately! :D

Hello,

Do the roomrates on your website include use of the aircon or do I need to pay extra for the aircon?

Regards,

Rene

I stayed at the same hotel for 1 month and was charged over 10,000 baht for electricity.

Yes i was told about the charge of 8bht when i did get there after i paid a deposit beforehand through paypal, however to get charged 9k for electric is steep.I had the superior room and the 9k charge was for electric alone,so it turned out to be an expensive at 26k bht for what is budget accommodation.

I agree very steep. Is 8 baht per unit standard company price? Elswhere I read numbers like 4-6 Baht.

We need to devise a list of possible extra costs, like in my case finding an extra 5% for paying with card, electricity, room cleaning etc.

Then asking them if these costs apply and getting reply in writing.

Although I went to Bangkok hospital with a letter from them saying the procedure was 10k,when in chair I was told they were sorry but it was going to cost 15k.

Electricity direct from the Electric company is about 3.5bht per unit, so they are charging more than double. They are not the only one's - most rented condos / serviced apartments charge far more than 3.5bht, most 6-10bh per unit.

I paid in cash and as i said the electric alone was 9k for 29 days! I was just giving a word of warning for anyone that has booked in there to be prepared for a nasty shock at the end of their stay,or anyone that doesn't want to pay that much for electric to avoid this place.

9K is taking the piss - That's 9 short times wasted!

Most places are charging for electric in their monthly rate. Not to tell you it is charged, is a rip off in itself, but 9K is a big rip off, I paid less than 2K last month for my 3 bedroom house, and I had the air-con running 24/7.

I was charged almost 5k for electric at the Butchers arms on soi Buikow (spelling) .I stayed there for 1 month . I didn't use the aircon for at least 2 weeks of that time as I was of traveling . the other 2 wks I was there I used the air con for about one or 2 hrs a day as I don't like air con when I sleep . No electric used when I was not there because even the fridge switched off when you went out . I would say a ploy to get you to buy all your food & drinks downstairs .

I just paid 6K+ last month for a 2 BR condo, direct from electric company at the 3.5b rate. Hmm.

He said they count him at 8 baht/Unit

Even at company price it would be an over 4,000 baht bill which is still a lot,

but that means the OP really use a lot of electricity,

probably air con very long time or at too low temperature.

8 baht is very current in location places,

I do not see any "rip off" in that.

Have to agree 8bht per unit is more often than not the Hotel/Guesthouse charge on a Monthly stay. and by the OP's own admission he left it on all night plus, plus the A/C in all likelihood was not regularly serviced and of an older type!

ALWAYS check your meter regularly and avoid these nasty shocks!

I just paid 6K+ last month for a 2 BR condo, direct from electric company at the 3.5b rate. Hmm.

So 6000/1.07/3.5=1602 units of electric. I never got anywhere near that usage either in a studio (unlikely I know), 1 bed condo or 3 bed 4 aircon house.

Not saying its wrong but the usage is very high, even for the hottest months.

Still, you have the luxury of paying domestic rates direct. At Bt8 a unit, your 1600 units would have cost you 12,800 baht !

It is a total cost calculation you have to make. I'll rent you a place for 1 baht a day but charge you Bt1000 a day for the electric, water, tv and cleaning. That makes it 30k a month. Same same with all monthly deals.

Some places do all inclusive on monthly deals but not at a steep discount to 30 x daily rate. This place quotes Bt1100 for the 45sqm 17k a month room. So you have 30*1100=33000 versus 17000. Something has to give !

Electric at Bt8 is a piss take. Commercial electric is I understand more expensive but many places which are commercial are still running on domestic meters.

Unfortunately you need to establish all the fees when renting accommodation. It truly is caveat emptor.

9k is just ridiculous, so is 5k for 2 weeks use. Don't they realize that word will get out & they will soon be empty. At Billabong Hotel in L.K. Metro we have monthly rooms from 16,000 but ALL the electricity, water and maid service is included. And you can get a great breakfast or a drink off friendly staff. If you are sick of being ripped off have a look http://www.billabonghotel.com

Cheers

Greg
