Soon the world cup is over

Recommended Posts

Now that we are coming to the end of the world cup we can think of the real Heroes who are dying in Afghanistan on a yearly salary equivalent to what Rooney and Co earn in a day.

Soccer players are not heroes, they are sportsmen who have a skill with a plastic ball,

over payed and thus act like spoilt brats !

why do we always give someone who has skill with a ball whom does not give a shit about the public a heroes welcome and multi-million pound salary, when we have soldiers who are skilled at defending us and put their lives on the line daily, a bum deal ! e.g lack of funds, equipment and thought :D

strange world !!!!!!!!

Beretta, agree with your sentiment and think we all must support our lads in khaki, they do a wonderful job on our behalf. :bhappy

You cannot speak of them in the same breath as footballers of any nation, let alone the ones you quote. :D

Chalk and cheese young man, chalk and cheese

I agree but people fighting a phony politicians war in a country they have no right to be in aren't heroes either they are complete fools for putting their life on the line for a country that couldn't give two fucks whether they die or not. I know I don't. Heroes? Give me a break.

Increasingly I think the best way to show respect for the real heroes, as berettakid so rightly calls them, is to bring them home.

Asked how the hunt for Bin Laden was going, General McChrystal said, "that's not part of my mission."

But now we're getting into politics...

People change. I don't think it's brave to try to get on both sides of this. Plus, I don't think you can.

These poor boys are still searching for the reasons in their lives. Some are mislead ; some see beyond the soilder's fighting life.

It the politicians that treat them like pawns in their game.

And another one trying to have it both ways, this time from the bleeding-heart side.

It's very distressing, this very wide gap between people who understand a bit about the military, and everyone else. Your view of the poor misled lads as victims, Mr mmaaarrrkkk, is just as stupid but WAY more offensive to them and to the military in general than the cretins in here who cheer on the fundamentalists and extremists to please kill them. In a just system, non-military people would have to meet-and-mingle with military folks just a bit, and get to grasp them and their ways and understand it a bit. It's one good argument for a draft, actually, and a non-professional military that even you could understand.

In very simple Pattayaesque terms you CAN understand although I already know you won't accept it: The military is not the government version of beer bars. They don't have to take everyone who walks in and asks to join. You feel every member of the military is either rock-dumb or so smart she is gaming the system to learn a trade and move on with it. I have one word for you: Heh.

I served 18 months as a combat medic in the fields following the troops into excercises and building BCS and field hospitals. However I have to come clean that I have never seen real action.

Okay. Then I find it stunning that you classify stereotype military folks the way you did in the first post. I mean I was literally stunned and couldn't think for a few seconds of how to reply to that.

And FWIW most military people don't see a shot fired either way these days, and thank goodness. It's just the way it is. Sort of like, it's just the way it is that people in the western world's military are (generally speaking) a cut above the average citizen in several important, even crucially important ways.

Thats the main reason for the post , not all people who served have the same principles as the politicians. But for everyone to achieve their goal ; they have to work together and be united.

I fully understand the american soilder's patrotism and follow orders ; as they should in the military. But once the uniform is off , these soilders have their own minds.
