Office Chair - High back + cloth (no leather)

Recommended Posts

Office depot has one for 6000 baht, but its hard as a rock. Might soften up after a while... but the stiffness is a sign of bad quality, IMHO. 6000 I think is a bit high, but I would pay it for a comfortable chair. Hell, I would pay 10k if it was of exceptional quality and comfort.

Visited a couple of the outdoor places on Pattaya Tai and Thepresit, but only more of the same.. bad quality.

The only good quality chair I saw today was in the office furniture store just next to Office Depot (near Homeworks on Suk) - tho I do not remember the name of the place. When I saw the 24000 baht pricetag on the chair I walked out lol.

So... Any recommendations where to look?

I sit in this damn thing 12 hours a day - so it has got to be comfortable. Has to be high back and cloth/fabric - not leather, and have an adjustable height and tilt.

TIA

Check out SB furniture store south of Tesco/Lotus on the Sukhumvit.

It's the last shop before you turn into Tesco/Lotus coming from the Sattahip direction.

I've not been in the store for some time but i bought mine there which cost around 5.500 baht some 6 years ago. It's cloth covered with adjustable height and tilt.

At that time there were better quality ones available, but at a price!!

I recently had the seat re-covered with good quality soft foam which is something you could consider on the chair you now use.

I sometimes spend the best part of a day at the computer and the seat i purchased in SB furniture is fine for my needs.

I went through 3 cheap chairs in 4 years, so cheap isn't really the way to go if your chair gets a lot of use. The last one died and could have led to a bad injury to me when one of the back legs snapped and I was thrown backward onto the floor. Just missed hitting my head on a table. The average chair here isn't built for a 200 pounder(90kg).

I've been using a chair I bought at the place you mentioned next to Office Depot. It's called Modernform. The one I got was on sale at around 7K and is based roughly on the Herman Miller Aeron Chair. I've got a bad lumbar disc and it's been OK with this chair. I think they have sales a couple of times a year with very good mark-downs on regular stock. You might go back and ask them when their next sale is on.

Ill check out the place on suk. Thanks for the tip.

I agree cheap is not the way to go.... but I don't do so well with leather and no way I'm paying 20k+ for a chair. 10k ok.... but not 20 lol.

I would be interested to know where you got the foam done but this chair is out of the picture I think. The base is cracked and going to snap soon and plant my ass on the floor lol. Hopefully it will last until I find a replacement. That place on suk is very close to my house....but never seen it. I live between tesco and makro but on the other side of suk and almost never drive on suk that way...usually cut in on khow tha low or somewhere in there and take the railroad soi home.

Anyhoo thanks for the tip. Will check tomorrow

I've bought 3 office chairs that looked okay, but fell apart before a year was out. Wheels fall off, springs pop out, lift/drop stops working...the ones I've bought just can't last with use.

I've been using a wooden dinner chair lately, and though my posture and back muscles are feeling the pain, at least it holds up to daily use.

A new, good quality chair would be a real boon.

I know the OP wants fabric

But for a quality leather at (semi) sensible money keep an eye on the art/furniture shop at the base of the escalator at Carrefour - when they have a sale good deals can be had.

Years ago, I purchased a recliner/rocker from a high end furniture store for $600.USD. I still use this chair every day and it's as comfortable today as it was the day I purchased it. Yes it was expensive but the many years of service has made it very cheap.

$600 for a recliner is acceptable... but not for an office chair. Apples and oranges :D

You say your going to sit on this chair for 12 hours a day and your going to quibble over a few dollars. BTW I use my recliner in my home office for years.

A work chair is just not worth $600 - not even in America, much less in Thailand. 20k baht is not "a few dollars", even for LDOPs like me :D

A recliner is made for lounging - not working. When I work, I sit up, not lay down. With a recliner (or that type of chair) my back would be out in a week if I tried to use my desk while in it. I have multiple monitors and input devices, so I have to be positioned just right at the desk or sitting for so long becomes uncomfortable. A recliner just wouldn't do it.

That said, I wish I could work out of a nice lazyboy lol. Would be fun :allright

Heeeeeee's Baaaaaaaack! :thumbup

We truly missed these types of barely-sensical posts

now enter the famous picture of the big naked bearded guy sitting at the computer on the office chair... I just know it's coming.

Seriously, BigD, glad you are back to posting :clap2

No luck yet? It seems like you should be able to get a real nice office chair in Thailand for $300. Maybe ask someone who works for a big company who their supplier is. And this might seem to be OT, but if you're having back problems you might want to use one of those big exercise balls at least part of the time.

  • 7 years later...

Sometimes you can find good deals on used Herman Miller Aeron chairs. They come in different styles and configurations, so make sure you try it out, if you find one. A few years ago I bought a Herman Miller "Embody" chair, which I like but it was expensive, even on sale. Anyway, I'd check some of the wholesale office furniture places. Maybe they have some used items they're trying to liquidate.
