I have not had a claim for some years now but always take out travel insurance.

In order to minimise cost I put most of the travel on the credit card and use their free insurance. I am aware that the companys that underwrite these policies are reputable and have no issues. I was wondering if any other members have used this form of complimentary travel insurance and whether there have been any issues.

It is definately worth some hundreds of dollars a year for me to do this.

I also use this method and have never had to claim, fortunately. for the standard type CC you are usually limited to 3 months travel, but for the Platinum, or premium CC, this rises to six months. With my ANZ insurance you also need to keep records of the details and dates of travel and the dates of booking and payment of the travel to the CC as this info needs to be provided at the time of a claim. I keep a laminated card in my wallet which says that I have travel insurance and gives the contact details for the insurance co and my friends.

i travelled to pattaya in last dec for 2 months the first time ive used the insurance thats included in the visa card i have and was unfortunate enough to become ill whilst on holiday i was in hospital for 10 days 128,000 bht and contd to visit hospital for 2 weeks after as day patient for change of dressing etc and it was all covered by holiday insurance underwritten by the royal bank of scotland it costs absolutely nothing and you get recovery in uk and lots of other benefits ;

but be carefull from leaving your country it only lasts for 28 days after that your on your own ,,,,,,,,,,,, so id advise AA all year round travel insurance about 65.00 gbp last time i renewed it i will be taking it out again ,but got to say the insurance paid out no problems at all :chogdee

I have worldwide travel insurance that covers me and my family members that is provided by my bank account, which also provides cover me for our mobile phones and full breakdown cover on my cars.

Previously I had separate policies for everything but this works out cheaper, and the cover is just as good. :D

It does vary, my platinum Visa credit card covers me for 6 months away from australia. My previous gold card was only 3 months coverage.

Hi there all. Biggles, I am the same as you and have 6 months (westpac). The interesting thing is that as far as I can see in my reading I am certainly no better or worse off had I have spent a lot of money getting a normal policy. I am however like the rest of the world sceptical of the insurance industry hence my question.

I'm 70+ years old. Have traveled quite a bit over the years and have never had nor needed travel insurance. I've never lived pay check to pay check and have always had saving for those just in case times. I just dislike insurance companies, i quess.

If its limited to 28 days cover and your trip ticket shows an extended period over and above than the 28 day cover becomes invalidated.

My cousin had exactly this problem and shelled out equivalent of £2670 in Angeles City.
