Using Peter Sellers... Being There

The Bridge on the River Kwai

seems appropriate

Filmed in Sri Lanka, aka Ceylon, as it was known in those days.

Fiction based on an historical event. Overall a good movie and Mr. Guiness was, no doubt, a fine actor, but I thought his death scene at the end was one of the worst ever put on film. Other than that a good movie and he certainly earned the Academy Award for Best Actor for his role as Colonel Nicholson.

Like a old woman with heat exhaustion?

Giving Col. Nicholson some sort of heroic death scene where he purposely blows up the bridge as his final act would have ruined the irony of the film. The fact that he "accidentally" falls on the plunger after he is dead perfectly emphasizes the message of the film - war is "madness".

The brilliance of BOTRK is that everyone knows how it's gonna end, yet Lean makes the final 15 minutes incredibly tense. One of my favorite movies of all time. :bow
