I heard a good story over drinks with a friend last night. Some of you may have seen the homeless pair that get around south pattaya and Soi LK and Buakhao picking up cans and bottles for recycling, one of them is a small lady about 30-40yo with glasses and the guy is about the same age. They usually do it pretty rough by always have a big smile and greet you with a big "hello farang" when they walk by. They obviously have some problems and are known as "the crazy people" by the locals.

Anyway they used to like camping out in a driveway next to a bar in soi LK and i think the owner used to buy them some food etc when he could but the problem was that it put off some potential visitors to his bar/guesthouse. I guess some bar owners would have just run them off but this guy went and got them a cheap appartment for about 3k a month and pays for it out of his own pocket each month.

The funny part was when he showed them the room they complained because it was not big enough and had a shared toilet bathroom (not sure what they used before when sleeping under awnings and in doorways), they wanted something bigger with an ensuite. And now at times when they walk past his bar they yell things at him like "farang mai jing jai" (or not of true heart)and staff get quite miffed by the abuse and remind them who pays their rent. they are now known by the staff as "the bosses family".

Now that is a weird story. I'm speechless. We name and shame bad guys on this forum. A true humanitarian, should be named as well. I would be willing to spend a few baht in the business of a nice guy like that.

yep...I've seen the pair many times...hard to figure why they would be so ungrateful....

Because someone gave them something they didn't want, and then pressed them to be grateful. Happens all the time.

The bar owner sounds a really good guy, I'm with LD - name him and let's reward him. But in the eyes of the crazy people, he gave them a pair of socks for Christmas, and they're simply not all that grateful about it.

Joe may have a point. I remember when I was just a kid, maybe 8 or 9 I went to work with my dad one weekend. We were in downtown Los Angles, when we stopped for lunch we went to a restaurant. As I got out of the truck there was a man sitting on the sidewalk, dirty and unshaven, obviously homeless, probably a drunk. He held out his hand and asked me for a quarter. I lived in the suburban area and had never see a homeless person before, so I reached into my pocket and gave him all the money I had. A nickel. He just looked at like I had just spit on him. I said, "that's all I have." He just kept staring at me like he was completely insulted or something, with his hand still held out. I reached back to his hand and took my nickel back. I told him "if it's not enough for you, I can use it" and walked away.

Kinda weird that I remember that. Thinking about it now, what kind of an adult would ask a child for money? Much less be insulted by the amount given?

pressed them to be greatfull???? i doubt the guys gives a shot about thanks, just an anonomous act.

Part of the story may be missing, but we know for certain it was NOT anonymous.

Couldn't it simply be that the guy rented the room, took them to the room and they hated the room?

But they still moved in? Then they actually wanted it ; most probably were just gredy and wanted more. Leave it alone if you think its shit , many other girls sleeping on the beach would love to have it.

Its like meeting someone and he tells you he's thirsty. You buy him a water and he says it's shit and wants a coke. BUT HE STILL DRINKS IT!

Name the bar and the owner , I'll drop by for a drink or two.

This is why I never ever give any panhandlers money where I'm from. Lots of lowlife scumbags walking around just asking for money like they're entitled to it just because they asked. It's a god damn shame. Most of these bums will just take the money they collected and go buy drugs with it, or alcohol. If you offer them food they'll spit at you like you've insulted them. Fuck them, I don't feel bad at all when I walk by and ignore them with my chin up in the air knowing I'm a higher being than the pile of shit they are.

Another thing that's really been irritating me is some bums who've set up shop outside my local Safeway grocery stores. They bring a chair and a table and a locked container for donations. They sit there pretending they're collecting donations for some charity or whatever but they're keeping it for themselves. I think the cops have been called on them before and they've been told to move along, I'll have to call the cops myself next time if I see them, or maybe just kick the chair out from under them and run.

dont want to drag this off topic but i am the same as you , i offer to buy them a meal and normally get told to piss off , one guy said "everyone says that" and i replied you must be very grateful you live in a city were people are so generous.

The guys i have respect for are the ownes selling the issue, I dont like the magazine and its expensive for what it is but i will give them $5 and tell them to keep the magazine as i dont really enjoy it, however i respect them having a go.

Like to know the owner of the bar seems like a good guy and would buys some drinks in his bar to share the goodwill.
