Hi folks, I have a pair of Next cargo trousers ( pants to you in the US), whihh I will be bringing to LOS, they are new but too long, by 1 inch, should be a routine and simple alteration just to alter them. Costs a fortune in UK. Thought I would ask one of these persons who you see in the vicinity of the Buakow market, ( road leading to the beach, don't have map) set up on the pavement with a sewing machine to take them up.

What do you reckon I would have to pay? 100 or so baht?

Or could take it of the indian taylors, but might get scammed.

100 Baht would be a fair price - stay away from the tailors.

You will also find that any laundry will organise this for you as well.

Ken can you recommend any other places to get inexpensive alterations around the tourist area?

I wouldn't mind some tailored tropical shirts. Any suggestions.

I won't go to the Indian tailors either.

Drives me nut when they glad hand you on the street.

I would be surprised if its as high as 100 baht. I live near carrefour on pattaya central road. One of the ladies who has a stall on the pavement regularly does alterations for me. A new pair of trousers I bought she charged me 30 baht for shorten (gave her 40). There are many people with machines in central road between second and third roads.

Iv'e used several of these roadside people, had a whole new collar on a favourite shirt for 50 B.

Broken zips replaced, trouser length adjusted e.t.c. All good work and quick too.

Give this lady a try. She(Par)made me two shirts on my recent trip this last month. She took me to choose the material, which I paid for separately, and then produced two beautiful shirts. She is very fast, efficient and reasonably priced and I thoroughly recommend her work. Details of her location opposite Wat Choi Mongkol temple on Pattaya Tai are included in the thread link below. :thumbup

I had 2 new pockets put in a pair of jeans by the lady who sits outside the camera shop in Second Road at the top of Soi 13. I think she charged me 70 Baht and did a very good job.

Hi Glyn,

these were two smart long pleated sleeve "dress" shirts also with a pleat in the back, in a

satin/silk material, with a special collar. The choice of material was mine and was as near a

match to the original(Gordon Bennett)shirt that I took over for Par to copy. So YMMV dependant

on choice of material.I paid 1300 baht total for the two shirts and a pair of casual trousers.

I believe she said the shirts worked out at 400 baht each, plus the price of the trousers(500).

I think thats about what it was.I gave her a generous tip on top of that anyway in appreciation

of the excellent quality of the work. :D

If I had some alterations to be made I'd go to the woman on Pattaya Sai, a bit east of where TukCom is, only on the opposite side of the street. She is out there everyday using a push peddle sewing machine, just got to respect a woman on the sidewalk with a manual sewing machine, they also fix shoes there. I'm sure the price is reasonable, the shoe fix (new souls) was 250 baht.
