Hi Accyboy, you have a lot of reading to do, I have posted some questions about taxis, and other stuff, and got lots of info.

If you are a member, please take the time to read the trip reports, newbies corner, and members bar.  If you are not a member, just sign up!  You will find almost all of the info you will need. :o  M_H

added info:  dont forget to go to the FLB bar and meet the other members, they will usually be there after 7:30pm

Dont let people put you off about bangkok, its one of the most exciting cities in the world.

Get a centrally placed Hotel, somewhere near Sukhumvit Rd. then just take a walk along Sukhumvut itself, take in the atmosphere, smells, sounds etc etc.

For things to do just take a look at some of the tours/trips advertised in most hotels or travel agents and take a tour, chill out.

In the evening take a walk to Nana ( I dont like it but some do) maybe sit in one of the big open air corner bars and watch the action. Maybe take a taxi or the Skytrain to Soi Cowboy (say soyc'boy to the taxi driver)

Again relax, you will feel your being pushed by the girls, but again, chill out take it easy, dont buy a drink for a girl unless you want her to sit with you.

Spend a few days in Bangkok before going to Pattaya

Not doing so is like visiting Paris and not seeing the Louvre or Pigalle

But remember. You are a Hansum Man with money, every girl in the bar wants to screw you, and its your choice..

ENJOY

G'Day accyboy. I agree with Crackpot. You have to spend some time in BKK, its is a very exciting City, whether you love it or hate it you gotta experience it. Pack light, because whatever you need you can buy it in BKK at a good price, just bargain.

Check out the Tours available, and depending on your time frame and budget the options are endless.

Have a great time. :)

On our last trip we went down the 'Catacombs' witch is where they put all the bones of the bodies they moved.

My personal favourite is the fine replica of Blackpool Tower.

Accyboy, unlike my fellow boardies, I suggest skip Bangkok and head straight for Pattaya.  I was uncomfortable in BKK but I was at home in Pattaya.

Join the members board and read the trip reports, there is a wealth of info there.

As soon as I land in BKK(45 days), I am going straight to Pattaya...........and when I am going home, its straight from Pattaya to the BKK airport.

Your Baht will go a longer way in Pattaya, Bangkok is more expensive :o

Once you get the hang of things, and how the deal goes, then by all means go to Bangkok.  Its more expensive there and more of a big city, I am from Hawaii and feel very much at home in Pattaya ;)  M_H

I agree with you on all points. But i think if anyone is coming to Thailand for the first time it is worth spending a day in Bangkok as it is a eye opener and should not be missed. Myself i am not all that keen on BKK but it still draws me there for the first day of my 8 week visit every year to Thailand IMHO. But most of all the object of your visit is to enjoy yourself but take care.

Cheers Doug.

Without knowing enough about your travel plans it's difficult to offer specific advice. I would suggest

2-3 days in BKK (around Sukhumvit 4-22)

Day trips to Grand Palace & Ayutthaya (that should keep you off the streets during the day).

Night trips to Nana Plaza & Soi Cowboy ( I like soi 33 myself, but it's not to everyone's taste).

Taxi to Pattaya (if you are travelling light or feeling confident then get the bus..it's not as scary as you may think)

If you take a fancy to a TG then let her show you round..there are a few places to see but I would only recommend with a TGF in tow, otherwise you may get a bit bored. Nong Nooch is worth a visit.

It is not difficult to make friends in Pattaya. There are plenty of guys on their own who are happy to chat.

I often go to Pattaya on my own & it's as sociable as you want it to be. It's not like the UK where you will be left alone..there is always someone willing to be friendly!!!

I will be in Pattaya over the New Year & then back again on my own in Feb.

If you are booking your own hotel then I recommend Sabai Lodge..very friendly & reasonable price. However, there are plenty of hotels in a similar price bracket that are equally as good.

I hope you enjoy Thailand!

Hey there,

I get there on the 21st for my first time as well :).  Waiting for membership so I can read up about the city.  Let me know what your plans are and we can grab a beer together.
