I have been looking on the Thai Air website, i want to book a flight for my girlfriend, myself and our kid who is 1 year old. I see an option for child 2+ but there is no option for an infant, she will be traveling on our lap but i assume we need to purchase a ticket.

Has anyone came across this problem? How do you get an infant ticket on Thai Air?

Cheers

I think its usual to assume that as long as the child is under 2 yrs of age at the time of travel they do so free but on the parents lap (and there's an extn belt )unless there is a seat available. Most airline crews I have seen sorting the situation out by asking passnegers if they would re-seat to accomodate such.

Yes i would expect it to be free or a small charge but there is no option for me to enter in her details, obviously she will need a ticket and a boarding pass but as there is no option on Thai Air site to enter in her information i cant see how she will get a ticket

From the Thai website... Hong Kong... :clueless

For an Infant (up to 2 years of age), the fare for international and domestic flights is 10% of the full fare; the infant cannot occupy a seat. For a Child (2-12 years of age), the fare for a seat on a domestic flight is 50% of the full fare. The Child fare for international flights is 50% or 67% of the full fare, depending on the country of origin and destination.

^^^^ that sites looks pretty good but i was unable to find it!

Ok so the reason i could not buy the ticket online is YOU CAN'T, i had to order the adult tickets and call Thai Air over the phone. Armed with my booking code they have now added a infant to the tickets :D

Yes only a very few people are allowed to know about this new site. I'll probably get in trouble for even posting the link here.

Every person, regardless of age on an international flight, must have a ticket. That was the rule for my entire career and was in force when I retired in '06.

And your point being? I never said about not having a ticket I referred to the age and being free! and I have now learned thats not strictly correct.

What is strictly correct then? Can you not say?

I'd just point out, also, that the post you're answering said it was in effect as of 2006. So it seems you're not actually arguing with him, but you have more up to date info.

I hope you're not referencing jacko's neat little aside, because yes, the pilot and crew have to be carrying a document to get on the aircraft, each one of them. Otherwise they don't get through security and they are unable to even get to the aircraft gate, you see. "Tickets" might not be the exact, precise right word and jacko raised a smile -- but then almost no one has a ticket as not described in the Warsaw convention (inside joke) for flying these days, eh? But yes, anyone boarding a commercial aircraft needs his/her own document or debarks before takeoff or is in the middle of a criminal stowaway case. That includes all crew, infants in arms, unaccompanied children, etc, etc.
