Qatar Airways an Doha airport

Recommended Posts

Hello Friends

Has anyone experience flying with Qatar from LHR via Doha?

If so, how was it? Airline is supposed to be good.

I beleive that in Doha you are bussed to the terminal?

Can I also ask, does Doha airport have Mac D, Burger King etc.? I will have an 8yo with me and teh stop on the way back is just over 4 hrs so will need to occupy with food! Going not so bad at just under 2 hours an dcan buy M&S sandwiched in UK and keep in a cool bag plus other treats.

Prices are good for when we want to go but only flown Eva, BA (never again)and more recently Etihad (very good). Qatar prices suit me hence the interogation!

Any comments welcomed as need to book by end play tomorrow or prices may rise.

Thanks all.

the airports ok, you can get free internet and there is a food place that sells chicken burgers and chips etc

qatar is a very good airline, you will have no problems, you have made a good choice

And yes you are always bussed to the terminal, so consider hand baggage and duty free accordingly.

Sometimes the bus seems to go a long way and take some time.

I rate the airline highly.

I agree, the bus ride is the worst part of the Qatar experience, they are very good apart from that.

I didn't see any Western themed fast food like McD, BK etc. The airport was a bit of downer for me, didn't even find a bar! On the upside the flight was very good with generous hospitality.

I'd forgotten that. From the plane to the terminal was only a couple of hundred yards, but the bus went round the airport perimeter. Some sort of one-way system I believe.

The bus doesn't cross the runway, it goes around which means at least a couple of miles on the bus.

And things can sometimes get a bit confused and a traffic jam will occur with other aircraft service vehicles. The wait isn't extreme, but when waiting to get to or from the lounge after a 7 hour flight, ten minutes stationary really irritates. I wonder if this airport will suffice as the airline expands.

I just did Etihad Biz Class and the on-board service from Bangkok was utter rubbish... improved on my next leg but since I passed most of that asleep I don't suppose they needed to do much.

The airport is undergoing an extensive redevelopment programme at the moment so things are a bit chaotic there, but in general the madness works out fine. When you board in UK you will be given a colour-coded boarding pass which is used to determine which coach you get on and where you get off. In your case, you will be in transit and therefore do not get off at the first stop which is only for people entering Qatar. You get off at the second stop [i am assuming that as you are travelling with kids you will be in economy class.....its a whole different process if you are travelling business]. In all cases movement of passengers from aircraft to Terminals is by coach. There will also be anouncements on the coach about where to get off and there will be ground staff on hand to assist you shud you get off at the wrong place......but it is not difficult, just listen to the announcements on the coach. As for eating places for the smaller ones, no McD's, but there are coffee shops and upstairs at the back right-hand side is a cafe type place that does the ubiquitos burger and chips. On the flight, you shud have a pretty good experience and I suggest you do check-in, on-line and confirm and reserve the actual seats you want. On-line check-in starts at 36 hours prior to departure. If you don't check in on-line you may end up with not the seats you would like, although travelling as a family the airline will do whatever it can to seat you all conveniently together but I strongly recommend checking in on-line. Hope all goes well for you.

  • 2 weeks later...

Hi, I have just booked my first trip in Y with Qatar for a Nov/Dec trip.

When completing the on-line booking and going through the seat selection process I noticed that all the aisle seats were not available for pre-booking. Does this change when on-line check-in opens 36 hours before departure ? and if so does this make it a mad rush to get an aisle seat, or, are they given out only at the airport check-in ?

As you might have guessed I prefer and aisle seat.

Regards

Sounds very strange and possibly a system error. The only seats generally not available to be reserved on-line are the emergency exit seats but to have an entire aircraft with all the aisle seats blocked is very weird indeed. If I were you I would go back into 'My Booking' on the site and check again and if they are still all blocked, give the airline a call and explain the situation to find out what is going on and if necessary ask them to block you an aisle seat. :chogdee

I visited the 'manage my booking' section a few times after booking, all with the same result, aisle seats blocked off.

I tried again yesterday and now receive the message 'error some or all of my flights may have been cancelled please contact the airline' hoping that it is just an error with their new website and will become available soon. If not, I will give them a bell in the next day or so and also ask about aisle seats.
