Where to buy an Android tablet in Pattaya

Recommended Posts

Hey there,

Just wondering if you have any advice on the best place to buy tablets [tablet pcs!] in Pattaya?

I'm looking for an Android tablet - not an iPad.

Since I'll be coming via Bangkok [but not spending much time there], if there is huge difference I could make some time on the way out and stop off at a spot in BKK, but I hope there's somewhere in Pattaya.

Many thanks! :bhappy

I too have been looking to bring an Android Tablet, every time i decide to buy, a new one seems to be coming along, i waited for Xoom 2 and now

asus have launched the EEE PAD Transformer prime, due in the UK in January so i think i will go for that.

Thanks for all the suggestions so far.

I'm currently running a desktop, a new 17" notebook, an older 12" notebook, and a netbook, plus a smartphone, so I don't need a tablet, I just want one to play around with, esp Android market, but CHEAP!!

I like the transformers [or having a keyboard docking station] idea, but I'm more in the market for a $100-150 Korean/Chinese knockoff than a brand name tablet.

As I live in Japan, it is cheaper to buy Japanese brands here than in Thailand.

So perhaps I should have said 'seeking underpriced, reliable Korean/Chinese knockoff with max price of $150 US'...

I'll definitely try the shops. Many thanks!

I picked up a Samsung Galaxy tab 10.1 16gb from TukCom at 18900bt last week, absolutely love it. I demo'd it to my mate mangosteen last night and he was impressed so it ticks all the boxes for me. Don't bother with one of those chinky knock-offs, I had one and it was clunky, got hot and with the wifi switched on it only had about 1 hour battery life. It could take a micro sd card though which was a bonus. I wiped the OS and reloaded it with a better version which got rid of all the chinese apps that were pre-installed.

Check out the Samsung v Ipad2 comparison vids on youtube.

cheers

I have a " underpriced, reliable Korean/Chinese knockoff with max price of $150 US'..." I never used... Somehow it was disappointing me, not really useful for my type of use.... if you want, it will be yours for 100 bucks... ( big screen )

Apparently, the application developers think otherwise.

Which is why Google is prepping 'Majel' Android voice assistant to counter Apple's Siri, for example.

I suggest you look at all the malware associated with android apps which I am sure most owners will download, both for tablets and smartphones.Any recent issues of computer mags or ZDnet will confirm. Not a problem wirh iOS.

Before you make the purchase,I suggest you read the currnet edition of PC World (Jan '12).The front page is -The Tablet You Want Today (it may not be an iPad).Good article and on page 59,it lists the top 10 choices, including Rating,Features and Specs,Performance and Bottom Line for each..#4 Toshiba Thrive was listed as the Best Buy.You may be surprised at what is the #1.

I run Android on my phone and Malware is a big scare put out by the competitors.

And developers prefer ios purely because they get paid for everything they do as Apple charge for everything whereas on Android there are a lot of Freebies available as well as paid apps.

But for performance, value for money and flexibility as a user Android is head and shoulders above.

My stock voice recognition software works very well on my phone, if Google are improving it then fantastic it will be even better.

Hmm, interesting. I certainly would like to have a look-see.

I get into Pattaya on the 19th, so perhaps you could charge her up and we can meet sometime in the next while?

I'm meeting a friend there, so I can't commit to a particular time until we've worked out our partying/diving/golfing/whatever schedule.

I've just been using the forum a short time, so I don't know all the rules on PMs and such, so I'll let you suggest the best way.

Cheers!

Thanks for all the replies.

I used Mac/Apple back in the 90s. After coming to Japan, where there was NO support or products a decade ago, I switched to Windows & Linux, etc.

It couldn't be helped...

Now, with Apple locking you in to their narrow product range, esp considering music usage rights, and overpriced to boot, I would never buy an Apple product.

Technology should be getting cheaper and cross-usage friendly, and Apple has gone in the opposite direction, which is very disappointing.

Yeah, but at least you could ask Siri where to buy a cheap tablet. :thumbup

Narrow product range? I think you mean "virus free" product range.Good luck with your android tablet.

I have an Acer A500 Iconia, 32Gb No 3g deliberately, Android 3.1 honeycomb O/S, front and back cameras

Probably the best thing I've ever bought, I can insert another 32 Gb MicroSD, can plug in usb (cards, portable hard drives etc), has bluetooth (if I have to I can tether my phone foe 3g) and GPS so can be used as satnav for free via google or free apps, 3g is unneccessary since I only need immediate net access for news, youtube and video skype as an example with the proper apps I can download offline versions of news and I don't need instants access to clips (why pay for access when I can find some free wifi in most areas)

Because I read a,lot I carry hundreds of books to read althought I prefer the paper versions can cost a lot of airweught and volume to carry them

Ipad users admit display on Acer far better than Ipad, 10.1 inch screen, can't recommend it highly enough

Best of all not tied in to one coroporation and ripped off by them

I was about to pull the trigger on the iPad at $419 but like you,I didn't want or need 3G,so I opted for a netbook instead.

I would buy from one of the main electrical stores in Central world. PowerBuy or Nomchai would be where I would first head
