Pattaya Expats, Sophon Cable Tv

Recommended Posts

Switched on the TV this AM and was surprised to see a Russian channel where the BBC should be.

My sophon channels are all screwy, missing channels, channels in different places. Not just the TV as it is the same on another!

Anybody in the Pattaya area seen the same..... don't know if it is the total network or just my area!

They've decide to do a channel reallocation (probably to add some stuff.

I'm going to wait for a day or two then just rescan the stations. Many channels still not working yet and some are duplicated.

Typical Sophon (Thailand) they do this without announcement or details

Cheers :gulp: Admiral Ken

Darn, what a chore. I position all my English language channels at the low end and have obviously got used to where they are. I also put all her favourite ones (for those awful soaps) in a block. It takes me a while and then I have to match my other TV as well.

You are right, they don't seem to have much respect for all their customers.

Still it is a lot cheaper than the satellite stuff.

Probably cut back on the English stuff and we will have more Indian, Russian and Chinese. The one that came on in the place of the BBC was trying to sell condos in Russian!

Thanks for the feedback.

What do you lot think is the best cable channel?

I am currently with Thipmanee but want to change. Was thinking about Sophon or what about Banglamung.

Can anyone tell me the prices etc.

Thanks

I have Banglamung in my house and it costs 3000 baht per year if you pay in advance, or 300 per month. Personally, i think its crap. But i have it to keep the wife happy as it has more Thai channels and only one "English" movie channel. There is no "Niels i love myself to mut" Pattaya People channel, only the local Thai ones and they are crap also

Sophon is the best of the two or three available I believe.

Certainly if you speak 8 languages as they try to cater to all! :D

You just made me dig around and I found a receipt for 3000 baht for 1 year. I believe you can pay 2 years for a discount.

I have found them to be reasonable on service too.... they actually answer the phone!

Had their maintenance guys up in the roof once and got me a good split to the bedroom.

Right, have to get back to sorting TV channels! :banghead

Looks like Universal has disappeared, one of only 4 channels I watch. Hopefully it will reappear when they finish the job.

Mostly I get by with torrents and BBC iplayer because most of the channels are rubbish.

There does seem to be a big difference in the quality of the picture on sophon depending on your type of accommodation. mate lives 5 streets away in a house, has a great picture and bought a 42 inch Tv, looks fine. I live in a room in a four story block and on the TV supplied the picture was pretty good, I bought a big Tv and the picture was pretty crap on a lot of the channels, particularly the ones I like, BBC, aljazeera, australia news, some movies etc. Made enquiries from others in the building and they have the same problem.manager got sophon in and its a little better but some channels still not worth watching.

Probably a single incomer and many splitters without a booster.

I don't think they mind in a private residence if you split it for a couple of rooms, but an apartment block is another matter.

You could ask sophon to give you an independent feed and pay them direct.

  • 1 year later...

I have had BTV cable for 11 years now.

Many problems but it seems all cable tvs here are the same.

I hear complaints from Sophon and TME as well.

Same thing always......movies in thai and subtitles also.

Cancelling channels...

On BTV they have had ITV Granada for years now, I look every day. The best by far.

But now on march 1st they just cancel. First I think some problem with the signal.......but I phoned them and they said......cancel contract sorry.

Now they told me many customers phoned up and complain so I hope they put it back.

Still today nothing on this channel !!!!!

If on monday no change I will go to the office in Naklua and make formel complaint.

I emailed them already....but no answer because of weekend.

Everybody who likes ITV channel please phone them up at 038/225 333

The other cables no have ITV, because then I would change cable.

So many problems....movies in thai, Fox crime now in thai, so many russian channels ,,,,,,,,,,we need this 1 channel for english please

Well I just renewed my Sophon recently. 3000 baht a year, and they tagged on 2 free months to last year.

As to deteriorating, I wouldn't say so, if anything I would say the picture quality has, on avarage improved. But still gets fuzzy mid afternoon when the sun is strong. Occasional loss of transmission, as maintenance is done, or some twat steals the cables. They get it fixed though. More Russian channels, and occasionally a DVD gets played with Russian soundtrack or Thai, where it is supposed to be the English Channels. If anything Pattaya One has deteriorated, repeated news items (shit there must be enough going on in Pattaya not to repeat the same News at weekends or Thursdays), and they don't update their information like currency exchange rates and fuel prices.... so why bother. Quite often you get a news report where the video is skipping......

The loss of some channels (Star Plus) and Premiership football is missed, I watch it for News mainly, BBC, Fox and Al Jazeera.... and catch the odd film re-run. The main Thai channels are there with good reception so my missus is happy. For 250 baht a month I think it is okay.

(Serves me right, we had rain Sunday and now the picture 'reception' is somewhat poorer).

Sophon off at the moment, was hoping to watch some of yesterdays EPL games this afternoon.

Anybody else lost their feed........?

So much for their 24 hour service. No answering the phone now!

Got through, some cable burned out and Sophon out in City too!
