I've seen plenty of maps of Pattaya, but none of them have a legend so I can tell how far it is from place to place.  So, does anyone have a guess as to how far it would be from North Pattaya to South Pattaya.  Three miles? More?

Thanks.  I'm gtrying to plan a trip, but haven't figured out where to stay.  I'd like to find someplace fairly quiet, but yet close to food, massage places, and bars - all within walking distance.  I'm not too worried about the price, but then again, I don't want to spend money for nothing.

Try Soi 2,Soi 3 area.

You have lots of good hotels  (Sabailodge,Sabai Inn,Welkominn)which are quiet at 50 meters from bar/massage complex (Sabaidee.....).Prices 600 till +/-1000 bahts/night

Take a look at the accomodation  chapter  of this board.

Big C (big mall with best prices in town,restaurants..) is just near. And the beach is on the other direction at 100 m.

WelkomInn has a good restaurant too; french and Thai food good and affordable.

I will stay in this area for the 3rd time this year end of this month.

Rex,

The Pattaya travel concept is a simple one.  Provided you stay between 2nd Road and Beach road, you can  get anywhere in short order.

Beach road goes south, 2nd road north.  If you wish to go further north in Pattaya, you walk to Second road (minutes), jump  in the first baht bus that stops for you (takes all of 1 minute on average) and hit the buzzer when you get where you are going.  Pay (big argument on this, but your first trip just give the guy 10 baht - a whole US quarter).  Going south?  Down to Beach road jump in a baht bus.

Truly, anywhere between 2nd Road and Beach road is accessable quickly.  And always close to SOME action, massage, food, etc.

That is the beauty of Pattaya.  ;D

Stay where you like provided you stay between 2nd Road and Beach Road.

I can't cope with hangovers these days so I avoid getting totally rat-arsed. Having said that, I had had a few drinks though not enough to stop me from walking in a (reasonably) straight line. At least that's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Unlikely I'll be doing that walk again in November as I'll be staying at the Residence Gardens and will no doubt be looking into the FLB from time to time.

Dear Rex:

I recommed the Mark-Land Hotel on Soi 2. It is a very nice hotel, has a nice pool, right on Beach Road so getting transportation is very easy, walk up Soi 2 and across the street is Big C shopping center, at the end of Soi 2 is Classroom 2000 near Soi 2 and 2nd Road, about one or two Soi's south on 2nd Road are lots of beer bars, restaurants, etc.

The hotel has nice rooms, a glassed elevator which is impressive to the Thai ladies that have never ridden in one, a very nice restaurant on the 27th floor that is all glassed which provides a beautiful view of Pattaya from north to south.

The rooms are around 1200 Baht, which includes a nice buffet breakfast served in the glassed restaurant on the 27th floor. The hotel is at the north end of Pattaya so it is nice and quiet but a short baht bus ride to anywhere.

The hotel is guest friendly no matter how many "guests" you entertain at one time. No "BS" joiner fees.

I look forward to staying at the Mark-Land for a month each year.
