cost of seeing doctor at Bangkok Pattaya

Recommended Posts

I was there yesterday. The cost to see a MD and prescription drugs was 2700 baht. I was in and out in 60 minutes. The MD spoke reasonable English. My illness was easy to diagnose and the drugs are working well.

I'm not familiar with any other Pattaya hospital. Sounds like you need a test for strep throat.

PIH on Soi 4, and Memorial at Klang /2nd. Not sure of the costs though...likely less than BPH.

There is a new place up soi Buakhao too.

Went to a clinic at the suchumvit end of nern plub waan.Doctor from Bangkok Pattaya has set up on his own.Very thorough.Blood test, urine test, about 2 grams of antbiotic fed in my arm through a drip and 2 more lots of medicine-1400bt.Get the blood test results at 8pm tonight.Doctor thinks its DENGUE FEVER :cry1

Its not very nice driving the bike in Soi Nern when you feel like death , but i had to avoid at least 6 groups of little cunt Thai kids chucking water in my face.

If it is dengue go to PIH on soi 4. You have to treat it and it can be fatal in some cases. There are not many tretments but it will be better to have a professional around because it can affect other things. Do not be skimping on money until you are over it.

I wonder why a doctor would administer an antibiotic for a viral infection?

Since Dengue can morph to DHF without a lot of notice I would suggest a hospital where they have identified and treated Dengue is a better idea than a doctor who gives antibiotics for it.

There is a rapid dengue test that a hospital would have given by now.

I've had it twice, only 2 more serotypes to go and I will be immune.

Good post Gonzo, very informative.

I might just take you to task over the BPH medical check up, my opinion differs a little.

Firstly there is always a special offer for The King's Birthday, (November through January) and a medical can be had for a reduced price. Last year I had the top level one done for 20,000 baht, and it was quite comprehensive (ultrasound, stress test blood/piss/shit analysis etc), it took all day and even offered the option of an overnight stay, and included a meal voucher (after skipping breakfast etc quite necessary).

Fortunately they didn't take the opportunity to scare me with some unnecessary procedures and prognosis of dire consequence. Although I must admit to having been very aggravated (a visit some years back) to find I too had been prescribed overpriced paracetamol at BPH when I always have the 20 baht SaRa blister packs (at 20 baht for 10 pills at Fascinos). at home. The indication of mercenary commission orientated doctors who really do not have your best interest at heart.

I said the doctor thought it was Dengue but gave me antibiotics just to cover other things until the blood test came back.

Had the results this morning and it is Dengue Fever definately.Have not been anywhere outside Pattaya and mostly stayed in my house. The only place i went was Cambo for visa run and was only out of the car for an hr.That was weeks ago so i think not that.

There has been a lot of local news reports saying that there is a lot of dengue in Pattaya.

My friend told me this morning his mrs had it 4 weeks ago, caught in Pattaya.

So be careful out there cause its not nice.Thought i was gonna DIE. :cry2

Doctors prescribing antibiotics without even something as simple as a gram stain under a microscope is why we get antiobiotic resistant bacteria and in your case it was completely useless as a treatment as you found out.

A hospital is where to go if you suspect dengue . Your test took 3 days vs. the 15 minute rapid Dengue test a hospital would administer as a good reason why.

Or what? There are 4 serotypes and if you get 4 cases you're immune including DHF.

Even DHF is easily treatable if kind of gross, symptom-wise.

And everyone thinks docs are clever....

You will be immune OR it will kill ya!

I just had a checkup at a private hospital in Loei. They took a urine sample and two vials of blood. All the results were back from the lab within an hour. There were fifteen different tests on the list. I have no idea what most of them were for. The main ones that I knew about were the chest X-ray, EKG, circulation test, uric acid, kidney function, liver function and hepatitis. The results were that my sugar level was at the top safe level and my triglycerides were too high. Cholesterol level was normal and all other tests were in the normal range.

The test costs were 2,760 baht and I was prescribed four different drugs that cost 795 baht total. The peace of mind was well worth the cost. I may have to continue taking drugs for my triglycerides and enlarged prostate. I'm supposed to go back in a month to get my blood tested again.

I was thinking the same thing. 2700 baht doesn't sound like that good of a deal.

When I'm sick, I don't worry about saving a few pennies. I'm interested in a hospital that will provide a high level of quality care. What I know about Bangkok Pattaya Hospital it's accredited by the American Joint Commission on Hospital's. They have rigorous standard's that must be met. My wife is a nurse and she was impressed when they inspected her hospital.
