Some first hand information about Doctors and dentists visit from February 2012.

We have been married now for Thirty years and about 5 years ago Paul was unnecessarily irritable to the point of being depressed and could sleep 24 hours a day if I let him. About 3 years ago with his best friend, work mates and me telling some thing was wrong he finally went to the Doctor and told him everything irritable, tiredness and loss of sex drive (even in Los). He was tested for everything and found he had very very low Testosterone. Now this can cause depression and depression can cause low Testosterone.

So he was treated with injection, therapist visit and happy pills. Just getting diagnosed made a big difference to his attitude and soon stop taking the pills and therapist visit were cut back to once a month and they were free (I think they use to just talk about Thailand).

But even with the injection his Testosterone was still low so he was referred to a specialist, after 18 months on the public waiting list, we were told we could go private but it would still be 3 months wait and between $300au and $1000 depending on what they did.

So on the Sunday before we flew out on the Thursday I contacted the Pattaya International Hospital via email with some details and they replied with an appointment on the Friday to see the SURGEON/UROLOGIST specialist Dr Jessada

Full name DR. VICE ADMIRAL JESSADA SUWANNASIN.

We arrived early and were seen on time. He can speak English well but translating what he want to know and tell us was a little awkward but we managed. He said that you need to take the happy pills and testosterone to trick the body that every things okay. So we got 2 weeks supply of pills, an appointment for a nurse to give an injection in a few days (as the Hospital had run out) and come back in 2 weeks.Total Cost 1020 baht.

Went back after 2 weeks “how you feeling” all agreed petty hard to tell when in Pattaya always better than home. But still no raging bull.

So we got six months supply of pills, another injection and a doctors letter stating that he is on a course of testosterone so we could buy them in Pattaya and travel with them to Australia. One injection in Australia costs $35 see attached bill for second visit total 1460 baht $45.

We went to the chemist on second road near Tims and got 10 Testoviron injection 250mg for 180 baht each. Made by the same company as what we get in Australia but called Primoteston here.

The the happy pills are working as some times I find him annoyingly happy.

Sex drive is better but I don't know what a 52 year old sex drive should be.

We will be returning in September with a follow up visit to DR. VICE ADMIRAL JESSADA SUWANNASIN.

Ticked prohibited drug on our arrival card didn’t even get asked, just got wave through all fine.

Tummy Bug in Bangkok

My nephew Clis (more like little brother) arrived in Bangkok a week before us and stayed with his girl friends family, some where that had been flooded in the recent floods. He has all ways eaten what the locals eat but he picked up a bug and threw up so much that he ruptured his stomach. He was treated with strong anti biottics and two morphine drips and a course of tables for the next two weeks. Cost around $200 au he could claim on his travel insurance but not worth the hassle, he could not fault the attention he got.

Hope Paul's doing better.

Always have fun w/U'all on the bar crawls, but did notice Paul not as "interested" as in previous years, although ur as fun as ever! Hope all goes well, keep us updated on the progess/problems.

I've had a couple close friends in patttaya that are taking self-administered injections monthly and like them, also had one that died from a fast growing cancer about 6months after he started, don't know if the 2 were at all related or if it may have contibuted to it, I really don't think so.

I've had "extensive" dent work done at PIH Dent clinic now on the 9th floor and am happy I used them although they are higher priced.

As a side issue I was reading at the weekend that neither dental or medical procedures are covered by most insurances at home. Just something to think about if something goes wrong and worth a look at whatit says on your policy.

Are you particularly claiming that their home insurance doesn't cover it, or that their travel insurance would not cover them if things went wrong.

I am of the understanding that we are not covered by any elected medical/dental procedures overseas but if they are consider an emergence EG: get a tooth acke on holidays see a dentist.

If he is due and injection while we are there and something goes wrong, as he under the care of his doctor in Australia (who is from the Philippines) this would be taken into consideration by our travel insurance.

Good info, aussiechic. I hope you cleared it with Mr. Aussiechic first :P

No that's why we have been married so long, I don't tell him everything and he's not to tell me what happens in Bang Chang even if I ask. :P

Not so good dentist visit on Soi Baukao

12 months before I had visited Hollywood dental across from JP court in Soi Longkee and he fixed a chipped tooth and clean my teeth for me for 600 baht but said it was a small filling and might come out which it did after a couple of months and now there was a hole I needed to get repaired. I didn't want to go back to him as I had complained about one of my back teeth hurting on the inside (got this fixed at Pattaya Int that’s another story) and he wanted to remove my wisdom teeth said they were putting pressure on my other teeth (crap).

So I was walking passed BK Dental on Soi Baukao on the corner across from Oasis and they have a sign out the front with prices on a picture sign 600 baht for filling, so I went in and they gave me an appointment later that day. I arrive 10 mins early and they took me straight in and up some steep stairs very clinical ( sparse and white) 2 girls seen to me in the chair and the Young female dentist came in and asked me what I needed I showed her the tooth she cleaned it had a bit of trouble with the little cage for around my tooth she was very rough and the assistant was very clumsy with the sucker, kept sucking my lip even stuck it up my nostril once. When she was finished just pushed the tray from me and said goodbye and left took all of 20 mins. Didn't ask if there was anything else or check, my teeth needed cleaning she should of seen that.

The bill was 1400 baht asked why, because they did 3 procedures 600 baht each. I question this further as I didn't even have a needle. She said that the dentist filled and put 2 coats over the filling so thats 3 procedures, so I said that would be 1800 baht this confused her “know only 1400 baht” I had about 1460 baht so she got a lot of small notes. No receipt I was bit angry which I very rarely get in Thailand after about 40 mins I went back and told her I want a receipt which she wrote out for me still trying to explain the cost. After crap service I didn't want them putting the cash in their pocket and not putting it through the books. Only $44 Australian but it was not a happy visit.

I have been to Dr. Sunil Dental Clinic in Thailand. I had done full crown from there and was much satisfied with the treatment. All doctors were very experienced and helpful. The best thing about that clinic is that language is not at all a bar over there, in addition that clinic offers language interpreters. price of treatment was same as mentioned previously on their website, so it was fair enough. You can also send them Your pictures in case you want to know more about your treatment. It was a nice experience.

Hi all just and update on Bad Boys health problems after about 9 months on testosterone replacement therapy with no change he stop the injections the end of 2012.

Now present day

After we returned from Thailand in March this year he had a barking cough and feeling unwell, when to the doctor and was given a course of antibiotics. These helped a little but the cough came back, so he went to see another doctor this time I went with him and told the doctor all the symptoms he had in the last 6 months. He has an annoying cough (which is currently worst) he has lost about 10 kg and some times faint. He gets the shakes which started in his hands but now in his legs, the doctor witness this when he stood up to check his breathing.

Blood test were ordered and the results were the cough was from Whooping Cough 2 weeks of strong antibiotics cured this. But it was the other results that amazed the doctor, his thyroid level was of the chart. ( Hyperthyroidism is a disorder in which your thyroid gland makes and releases more thyroid hormone than your body needs) basically his body eating its self to stay alive. His chest xray showed that 2 of his vertebra had collapsed and fused which is another symptom of Hyperthyroidism (brittle bones) his bone density test came back high risk. He Immediately started taking a high coarse of tables to slow the Thyroid, that he may have to take up to 3 years. After 6 weeks he has gained a little weight but he had low blood pressure a side effect of the drugs. Blood test show all his levels were in the normal range, but his TSH were still high so the dosage has been drop to half. He still has to start treatment for brittle bones, one part was changing his diet which we all ready done(more protein, dairy and non starch vegetables).

Now here is the interesting part his floating testosterone levels were low but natural testosterone were normal. The doctor reviewed his old blood test from 3 years ago and with every test his Thyroid was increasing and was even in red writing. The first doctor never pick this up and just tried to treat the testosterone level. It has been only 10 weeks on the tablets but things in the bedroom are on the up and up. :lsmile
