Yeah, I was looking at getting a trip up there in Aug as

they do a summer deal for 800 Bht per round

bangkok ... hua hin if anyone is interested there are luxury mini buses go from victory monument in bangkok to hua hin centre , very cheap, cant remember the price ,

but very reasonable, they park just of the victory monument in a side street near the hospital,

 

Well, not exactly luxury but they do the job. There are several minivan outfits doing the BKK>>>HH run. Others are located beside the shopping mall at the opposite end of VM skytrain station to the hospital exit. Exit the train, go down the steps and turn right to enter the mall 2nd floor. Go downstairs and out the doors on the corner and the minivan station is immediately to the right.

180 baht, vans every 20 mins or so. Avoid the front death trap seats and the kidney-shaking rear seats. Best are the middle seats, they offer some collision protection (others get killed before you do). Trip time is about 2'40" depending on traffic and weather and how long the lineup is at the filling station.

My Thai friend used to take me to his hometown in Songkhla by Thai Train, 3rd class, no aircon, no bed. I was the worst 18 hours of my life.

 

After that, Thai train has never been in my transportation list no matter how far I go. Once is more than enough for this shit.

All I ever used it for was the trip to Hua Hin. Checked it off my bucket list, and don't need to do the train thing again...

Agreed, did a few train trips years ago, the one back from Hua Hin was probably the worst.

A slow and uncomfortable way to travel mostly......

BTW - and I apologize in advance if this seems like a silly question. I checked the timetables, and this didn't appear to me to be true, but I was told by a fellow who claimed to ride the trains routinely, that in order to travel by train from Hua Hin BACK to Bangkok via 2/C aircon, one had to actually take the train one stop in the WRONG direction first and then catch the train to Bangkok from there (i.e., could not catch an aircon train from Hua Hin to Bangkok). True? Don't remember the name of that station in the other direction from Bangkok, but he insisted you had to go there first (and it wasn't a trivial distance).

Quite possibly..... I can only comment on a particular train I took from HuaHin which did indeed seem to stop at a lot of places and was a method for the locals to transport their farm produce by the look of it.
