Several boardies spent the recent election weekend in Bangkok. Several of us stayed at Aloft on Sukhumvit Soi 11. Aloft is a spin-off of Starwood's W Hotel line. Think of it as a budget version of The W. The vibe is fun and young...and cheap. I paid a rate of 2,000 baht per night (not including taxes) for an Urban room, but there are lower rates available.

The location is convenient for Nana, Cowboy, Beer Garden, and more. The hotel is across the street from Bed Supper Club, where I use to go with a civilian ex. Bed and the rooftop bar at the Fenix are great places to watch civilian eye candy. The soi has lots of nice restaurants and street food.

For the most part, I was greatly satisfied with the hotel, room, facilities, staff, and price. It's a great way to rack up Starwood points/stays. I would definitely stay at this hotel again.

+ Guest friendly

+ Super soft and very large beds

+ Room is intelligently laid out

+ Outstanding lunch buffet for 249 baht

+ Nice gym, decent pool

+ Fantastic location

- Rude Chinese tourists

- Rooms are a bit small

- No handheld shower

- Internet was a little slow

If you have any questions about Aloft BKK, I'll try to answer them. Hopefully the other boardies that stayed there will chip in with their impression on the hotel too. Frosty's room was...exceptional.

I second the recommendation. I had the same style room for the 2k++ rate and was very happy with it. Probably one of the most comfortable beds I've ever slept in along with great pillows.

Everything about the hotel was just right for me.

The lunch buffet at 249b was splendid....a wide variety of foods, a grill station, a pasta made to order station, and a dessert selection that was excellent.

I don't think any of us tried the noodle soup station. Bastax tried the stir fry station.

The first time we went, they ran out of creme brulee to MM's disappointment. The next day, the manager brought over a plate of creme brulee right to MM. That was a nice touch.

Will recommend also, beds were the best :thumbup

Too bad they lunch buffet ran out of creme brulee on my last day there, they said some greedy board member ate a whole tray of them the day before.... :whistling:

Great pics of the hotel. I would endorse the positive reviews on this thread. I spent 2 nights there early last month and I enjoyed the great luncheon value. I also had dinner there with a TG and it was good but more expensive and less value.

A couple of cautions though. I found the walk to Sukhumvit along the obstruction laden Soi a complete pain the ass. That BKK walk is ok for 100 or 200 metres but 400 metres is just a bit much. I took to taking a motorcycle taxi as the hotel tuk-tuk never seemed to be available, 20 baht to Sukhumvit. But I was reminded of the dangers of that when a lunatic driver decided to play chicken with an oncoming taxi....I'm too old for that bullshit bravado.

The other caution is the room is quite small. The bathroom is huge which is nice but there's not much room around the bed. It was fine for me staying alone and fine when I had one overnight guest as we stayed on the bed all the time. But I think a couple staying in that room would find it a little cramped.

Overall, an enjoyable stay in a nice, new hotel and excellent value.
