Sandy Springs Safe in Lobby

Recommended Posts

Can anyone tell me about the safe in the lobby at Sandy Springs?  No in room safe, they say one is in the lobby.  Please tell me do we each get a safe? Can my laptop go in it? Access 24/7?  Any help at all in this matter would be a big help.  I am booked there for 8 nights after 4 nights in bkk 2 weeks to go and getting very excited!!   ;D

ramster,

Yes, every guest gets his/her own safety box in the lobby. Most hotels have a few larger boxes that may or may not be big enough to accommodate a laptop. I'm afraid I can't remember the Sandy layout.

However, they may have boxes large enough for your laptop but if they do then experience tells me they won't have many of them. You would be well advised to mail them and enquire if they do indeed possess larger boxes (they prob will), and, if so, ask to reserve one.

An alternative suggestion is to use their own "house safe" where they will stow the laptop for you.

Another suggestion is not to pick up Beach road freelancers when you are shitfaced.  ;D  ;D

All joking apart it is HIGHLY unlikely that someone is going to run off with your laptop unless you are judgementally impaired so keeping it in your room is almost certainly safe.

Sorry, but I can't remember the opening hours of the reception safety boxes - perhaps others can help you there - but my hazy memory thinks they were something around 0700-2200 but, from what I can recall, not 24/7.

Cheers

Pieman.

I'm a bit like you as far as rembering the safety deposit box hours, but I have arrived quite late at night and got access to them, so I think that they are 24/7, and your right about room security I don't think there is a problem leaving a laptop in your room.

Whilst some of the boxes at the Sandy are large none would be large enough to accomodate a lap top.

But is taking your lap top strictly necessary as there are plenty of good internet cafes within strolling distance of Soi 13.

The one around the corner has ADSL and has various payment plans if you're in there a lot

That gave me a chuckle ramster - tks. Don't worry about your driver finding Sandy Springs - it won't be a major issue.

As for the Internet Cafes then the one Tony is referring to (I think) is easy to locate. Turn right as you come out of the hotel and you come to a junction after about 100 yards (it's 2nd road/soi 13 but that isn't relevant). The internet cafe - adjoining a Kodak camera shop - is about 10-15 yards on your right.

Having said that I found the connection speed very up and down the few times I used it (despite the ADSL they advertised) but YMMV.

Cheers

I used the net4U on 2nd road, facing soi pattayaland 2 (penthouse, mistys a gogo)  and across from the thai military bank.  ADSL was ok for me.  They have decent plans for 300bt /300 minutes if I remember?  M_H

just down the street, world massage is good for a thai massage, see Kun #18

and the boat bakery for a good cheap meal.

Used it many times myself with no problems. I seem to remember a cute babe works there. Can you BF an internet cafe worker?

Yes Pieman is right that is the one, never had a problem in there with connection speeds but I'm only in there to check emails etc.

" am having a hard enough time finding S.S. they are on Sio 13...and there are three of them.   Ramster "

That's gotta be the BEST honest comment I've read in a long time, Ramster!  It's all in a days trip to those who have been there, but the "other13's" all have slashes after them....and there's at least four others if you count Soi 13/1 through Soi 13/4.  And then there is Boystown Pattayaland 3 which is actually Soi 13/5....?  But don't worry about it 'cause the bus/cab driver who has ever been to Pattaya before will find the "regular" Soi 13.

There are an abundance of internet cafe's around nearly EVERY CORNER in that neighborhood.  That's one thing you will need to get used to if you are a veteran of BKK.  You can actually WALK to darn near anything in Pattaya (or take a 25 cent baht bus if it's hot).

There is a good map on the following website if it might help:

 http://bahtbus.com/map/index.html

Eyeball the detail maps as well, but don't panic because the Sandy Springs isn't on the map yet. Some others have already mentioned the Sportsman Bar and you are right across the road (across Soi 13 and into the parking lot) of the Lek Hotel which is a great place to catch a late morning buffet breakfast that has some Thai food for the pooying as well.  85-95 baht as I recall and a good value IMHO.

Wish you a great time on your first visit to Pattaya!  ;) :D :D :D :D

I'm writing this from my room at the 8th floor of the Sandy Spring with a wonderful view of the sea to my left  ;D. Arrived in Pattaya 8.30 last night and had no trouble finding Soi 13 and the Sandy Spring.

I brought my laptop with me and bought a standard Loxinfo pre-paid internet connection account from Reception. This gives you 30 hours connection for 380 baht. Fairly straight forward to connect from your room.

The safety boxes at reception are quite small, but even if they were large enough I wouldn't want to drag my laptop between my room and reception every day. I'm happy to lock it in my luggage bag.

Did the above mentioned Lek Hotel buffet breakfast (2 minutes walk) this morning for 95 baht.

Life is good  ;D

Thanks Gordon I asked for the same room!  I got a lock for my laptop so I’m not worried about it.   Did you buy the Loxinfo pre-paid internet connection account at Sandy?  Sounds Like something I would be interested in? I use cable at home (no need for a modem here) I need a modem connection from the room.  Thank you I will try to connect in the room but if I can't I will use my laptop copy to disc and go use the one nearby :)

Hi Ramster,

Yes I bought the Loxinfo pre-paid internet connection account at the reception desk at the Sandy. It's the same package and the same price that is available from other places. Just ask the helpful girls at reception (they're not too bad on the eyes either  ;D) for the numbers to dial. You also need to unplug the RJ11 plug from the phone into the computer's telephone socket.

I'm used to cable at home as well and don't find the drop in speed too much of a deal, particularly as I have a number of web pages open or going at once. Besides, having a connection in your room is not a bad way to spend your time whilst your girl from the evening before is still asleep in your bed  ;D.

I'm in room 809 (8th floor) which would have to be the best 'deluxe' room in the hotel in my opinion. The 9th floor is just the roof, it's in the corner of the building so there's only one other adjoining room and no passers by, and you have the best view from this position. With the front and balcony doors shut you don't hear a thing from the outside world.

Thank you again, really nice of you to take time out to answer. Scince you use cable at home too, how do you connect? does the prepaid service you get from hotel have a way to get on line with a dial up? I was thinking about getting AOL for a month so I can dial up from the room,  I'll ask for 809 sounds nice! If you could stash a little TG in the closet for me that would be great! One of those little cuties working at the desk will do. too bad you are leaving when I arrive, I would like to buy a beer or two for you See you.  ramster

I'm afraid Ramster that you can't have my room because you arrive on the 6th and I check out the morning of the 7th  ;) .

I'm not sure if I understand your question but the internet connection from the room is a dial-up though the phone line. There's no other way to connect from the room. I'm not sure what advantage AOL would have here over the local service. Might be faster and perhaps a little more expensive ??? In the three times I've used the service there hasn't been a disconnection. You'd also have to make sure that it's a local call to connect with any other provider. For LoxInfo I'm dialling a local number and that costs 8 baht.

Well, if the rooms still available on the 12th I might give it a look myself.

Gordon, just read your post about PJ Scuba. Don't blame the messenger!! Had you booked the return journey with them, and if so, will you still be using them? If you will, I'd be interested to know what happens, for obvious reasons. And by what time do you have to vacate the rooms in Sandy Spring?

be seeing you

Monkeyman,

I didn't even remember who brought the transfer service to our attention, until now !  ;D

It was no big deal in the end just a minor inconvenience and Peter (of P J Scuba) was most apologetic and sincere in his reply - just one of those things that will go wrong from time to time. On the return to the airport I'll use one of those numerous services offering a taxi to the airport for 800 baht.

One negative to report about the Sandy Spring - maybe it's just my room or Pattaya is inflicted with them, but there are ants in the room. Just flicked a couple off my computer... >:D

I'll get back to you regarding check out times.

And Ramster, plenty (an abundance really) of cutties in this city without having to resort to picking on 'innocent' receptionists  ;)

Gordon I will try to keep my paws off the help at S.S. But I am so close to getting on a plane to BKK for 4 nights then Pattaya for 9 nights the....well you got think back to the fist time you went (assuming there was a message board) and for months you sat at your computer reading all these reports from LOS. Well need I say more?   [smiley=grin.gif]

I joined a site that posts about Amsterdam before I went last year, it made my trip absolutely fantastic!!   I made my post after my trip and I go back to the site every day…then one day I happen to see a page that says other places, I had to click on it and read a report about Thailand that did it.  I figure that if Amsterdam was that good this was going to be outrageous!!  I'm sure when I get back I will post my  report for you guys and come back daily to read just like most of you.

You gentleman that post your reports, suggestions and recommendations are truly the BEST hats off to you all.

Gordon love to buy you a beer on the 6th when I arrive at S.S. I will be in Bkk on the 2nd and will try to hook up Loxinfo if I have any free time I will start the report from there.  Ramster
