Considering a taxi on meter is only $9 including tolls from Sukhumvit one would have to be pretty impoverished or have no luggage at all to bother with it. The BTS transfer to the Airport train is not set up to roll off from one system to the other with luggage, not that you'd want to ride the BTS with luggage anyway, so it's hard to see the point of this alternative.

Compare to the HK Airport Express where it flies along at 100 km/h and you can check your bags at the station even in Central HK 90 minutes before your flight and both you and your bags get on the plane.

Grandpollo, while I agree with your comments on the limitations of the system, and only in thailand could someone spend so much money on something so badly thought out, if you only have small luggage it is quite good.

Took my filipina home yesterday and we were staying on soi 18 Sukumvit. At 8a a short walk to ASoke station, travel one station to Petchaburi, ( 15 baht each) walk to the Airport line and we caught the airport City Line (not an express cost 35 baht each) which took 26 minutes to the airport station. total time 70 minutes and cost was 50 baht each.

The traffic in Suk was bumper to bumper at 8am so I reckon we saved a lot of time, not to mention the baht. !!

in june I used the Airport link and BTS on arrival. I was travelling with a small carry on case. From the seat belt off sign to my room at the Majestic Suites close by Nana plaza was 65 minutes. The cost was less than 60 Baht. Other than a bit of a squeeze at Siam it was sweet.

In the past it has taken me the same 65 minutes to get from the end of the Highway to the junction of Nana and Sukhumvit. It`s the train for me every time now.

at rush hour...

the train to and from Nana area is buy far the best means of travel to the airport,

You can see all the bumper to bumper cars stuck on the highway as well :lsmile

no problem for me as I always travel light...

Even a single carry-on can be kind of a pain on the usually crowded BTS. I do it; I'm sure I'll do it again; 'have seen lots of farangs doing it with far more luggage; but it's not fun getting to & from the air-link station by BTS.
