Has anyone been able to buy a Myanmar Visa online? The Air Asia site says it can be done but when you hit their link it requires a username and password to check-in. I'm thinking of using Air Asia for a 3 or 4 day trip to Yangon from BKK in November. Any advice on how to secure the visa would be appreciated.

Also, are Thais exempt from needing a Myanmar visa? I'm thinking of taking a TG GF with me. She has a passport. Does she need a visa?

They have an embassy in Bangkok who can issue a visa:

Address : 132, SATHORN NUA ROAD, BANGKOK 10500

Tel : (662) 233-2237, 234-4698, 233-7250, 234 4789,237 7744

Fax : (233) 236-6898

You can e-mail them at myanmarembassybkk@gmail.com and find out but I bet it will be same day if you ask them.

Otherwise there are express visa firms online up the hoop.

I know Thais can get across for a day at Mae Sot, but I see you plan on arriving via Air Asia. Yes Thais need a visa, can be issued on arrival 28 days/$40.

Does everyone have to pay $40? Is there a departure tax as well?

Looks like it. Here..

At Yangon airport I think there is a $10 departure charge for everyone.

I doubt there is an airport on Earth with no departure tax, either cash or paid in the fare.

Pain in the ass when it is cash and only local cash like Cuba.

True but I dont mind if its pre paid but when you run into the likes of US25 in cash say for leavingg Cambodia this can hurt.

Way back in '95,the departure tax was payable in dollars IIRC.What a great (illegal) trip.I was referring to Cuba.

I had some friends go, and they found a travel agent in Pattaya that took care of the visa's for them. I believe they had to fill out some paperwork, and give the travel agent their passports, then the travel agent had someone that went to the embassy in BKK for the visa. Of course there was a charge, but it saved them the trip to BKK and back.

I approached a few BKK travel agents to do it for me but got an emphatic no as there was a good chance it would be refused..i had to queue up at the Embassy( more like an old school hall) with all the bloody hippies for hours in the sweletering heat.

To the OP good tip here. When approaching the counter with your documents have a couple of hundred baht in it....my mate did this and walked out straight away...i didn't listen to his advice and was left hanging around for hours...oh how he laughed at me cos i said it wouldn't work
