My wee beastie

Recommended Posts

When I last returned from the UK some months back, there was a new resident in my garden.

A little scary, and at the time about the size of my computer mouse leg tip to leg tip.

First inclination was to get the Chaindrite spray out, but then I thought about the rumour that spiders were good luck.

I have had a run of shitty luck this year, so I was disinclined to temp fate and, since the web is in a corner where I am unlikely to walk into it (I would die on the spot of shock if I got this thing on me), I left her be.

Then a few weeks later I had a bit of good fortune and superstition took over, and she still lives nearby, but seems to be growing quite quickly, the web approaching tent like proportions and her opisthosoma (of course I looked that up), is now the size of my thumb.

Will she eat my cat eventually?

I hate flies and mosquitoes, so anything that eats them is my friend. I'm not real fond of spiders but I leave them alone and try not to get tangled in their webs. I think the one you have is a common garden spider. Yes, they can bite if you aggravate them too much but it is no worse than a bee sting.

I'm not one to believe in luck etc but I still don't kill spiders unless the girls insist.

That's right baby, in Canada we know how to treat our spiders... free drugs and they leave us alone.

Have you a name for your spider. B) .http://www.dailymail...ew-species.html

I disturbed him one day as I was trying to mow and trim under the bushes and he moved around the corner, where he got sprinkled when I watered the garden. Then I saw him no more, fickle these Thai spiders. I must say I am quite pleased to see the back of him and I can refocus on the 250 geckos I have.
