1.75 million baht a year from 200 pigs?

Recommended Posts

Just watched that Ladyboys 2 documentary. Scott's partner Paeng had bought the village some pigs. He said he reckoned you would make 1.75 million a year from 200 pigs, which is 8,750 profit per pig. That doesn't sound right. Anyone know about pig farming?

I do know they reproduce. Did you take that into account?

No. I hadn't really thought about that. He just said he had worked out that 200 pigs, would earn you £35 - £36k a year. She wouldn't have any land rent costs though. She was doing it as the bar in Action St, Pattaya is seasonal. It was an interesting documentary. As was part 1 where a guys 22 year old son came over to visit him and his ladyboy partner.

ring them to

I'm sure there are tons of farming websites about pig farming. It's big business in parts of the world. It can also be risky business, I think, depending. Remember, pigs have to eat. And when it comes time to bring them to market, you may be lucky just to get your money back.

Never involved in hog production myself but knew people who were when I was growing up. A few years ago, a BM posted some picture of a pig farm in Thailand. http://www.pattayatalk.com/forums/topic/34328-a-trip-to-the-pig-farm/ It looked like an impressive set-up and would have involved a significant capital investment so who knows. A school classmate who went back to the farm after university said that in years in which everything else went bust, the pigs paid the bills.

As an aside, my father had raised hogs before I came on the scene. I once asked why he had given it up. He said, basically, that it was too much work. As this was a man who didn't seem to have any fear of hard work, that made an impression.

Good thread thanks. Guy is quite funny.

I googled pig franchise, Thailand, as I had got emails from them years ago, and funnily enough, found a Scottish couple who had been ripped off by the company

Scott's numbers are intriguing though.

Even if he did all the work himself, no way would he make anywhere near that kind of money. I live out in the boonies and know more guys who tried it and gave up than guys who stuck with it. There were reasons they gave up, not making any money was at the top of the list.

I have actually been on a couple of pig farms here.

Not an occupation I would choose.

Bloody flies everywhere.

Pork price is in free fall at the moment.
