Unwanted redirects.....

Recommended Posts

I am sorry to spoil your New Year so soon... but this happened again this AM.

I repeated the soe and arrived at Pattaya Talk fine second time around. :clueless

Yeah, I've been having to clean the redirected page every 5 or 6 hours. I wasn't able to last night. (NYE).

It's a tricky one.

Okay, I think I have found a way to prevent the problem, but sadly not a complete fix.

It should not be happening anymore.

If it does, let me know please.

As soon as I saw you had posted in this thread, I 'gave it a go' before reading your post......just now.

I am very sorry to say, I was redirected!

(Are you sure it is not a combination of issues, perhaps between the board and Yahoo?)

I've removed the code on the server, and it's not returned, of that I am sure.

I think perhaps you are using a cached copy of the board code that was bad.

How is it that you are accessing the forum? Is it a bookmark, a search result or what?

I come in 2 ways.... sometimes I open a new tab, and there are some quick access links that are never a problem.

Another is my Yahoo homepage, where I have a FLB bookmark.... which gives me the intermittent redirect.

It would seem odd that a cached copy of my homepage would contain the redirect unless Yahoo did too.

(Yahoo homepage bookmarks are very confusing to me, I have changed them in the past and the change is not always reflected, even a long time later) I am thinking I am using caches from some other place than my computer?????

All above my head.

Yes, the cache can exist on your computer or on the intermediate site (e.g. yahoo, google, etc)..

Perhaps over time (days?) it will age the cache and reload what it thinks it already has.

Does the yahoo link always result in a redirect?

No, it is a sometimes event.

Is it possible a cache is also held by my ISP?

I looked in my DNS cache and the URL4SHORT.INFO is in there but I don't see anything for FLB.

Flushed it anyhow....

Yeah, sorry to say I had it yesterday.

I was beginning to think it was a cache issue somewhere.

Edit...and today.

It's a gOOgle redirect virus, total pain in the ass. I cleaned it from most of my stuff, but now whenever I have the problem I just back up and hit the link again. It usually works the second time around.

This article is a year old, but I think it's applicable in this case.

At this point, I seem to be redirected to an innocuous site as per OP.

But of course that need not be the case.

I even tried a Block-Site Firefox Add On, but I just got stuck on the blocked site page and had to disable it!

Probably superfluous info but I came across this yesterday for the first time, using a different pc to normal. However I did not deliberately enter Pattayatalk, but was using a "search result" for some query that I had made on Google. I could not get out of the redirect to the pattayatalk subject.

  • 3 months later...

Is this still happening?

I made some changes today that hopefully will fix it.

Last time I saw this was likely 2-3 weeks back. But in the interim Yahoo withdrew the Homepage facility where I saw the problem.

Just rechecked and was NOT redirected.

That's hopeful.

I'm pretty sure it's fixed now.

Yep, the little fucker is back...I'll whack it shortly. Seems there is some back door it's getting in. I've not found a solution to that yet.
