Hi dudes,

Well, my regular hotel responded and they haven't any suites, nor do they sound like they wish to negotiate prices in low season.  Fug em.

So, I am looking for a new place to stay.  Here is the criteria:

1)  Prefer inside the 2nd Road/Beach  Road area so I do NOT have to cross 2nd Road or walk long distance.  Don't care north or south end of town.

2)  Want suite or large room.   Need minimum kitchen with refridgerator and microwave.

3)  GOOD AC.  Must have good theormostat.  I hate freezing cause its either all on or off.

4)   Guest Friendly  ;)

5)  Quiet.  I like to SLEEP some of the night.

6)  Large bed.  None of this twin beds crap.

7)  Secure facility and either inroom safe or lockboxes at counter.

Candidly, the Residence Garden is intriguing BUT, it is not as convinient as I would like (500 meters from FLB?  I don't think so).  And since I am staying for 6 weeks I don't wish to pay that much.

Ideas guys?

Jimmy:

How about Steve's Penthouse suite at Lew's? Right in the middle of where you want to be.

And, the walk up four flights of stairs at 2 AM in the morning sure would help to sober one up. And, I know you have been known to "down a few" during the evening.

Jimmy,

The microwave requirement eliminates many potential places.  I wonder if there is a place in Pattaya where you could rent one or buy a used one.

jerry,

I love Lews, but, ahem, lack of anything resembling privacy is why  I no longer stay there. My private life was a subject of too much discussion amonsgt my golf buddies.  Mostly envy I believe.   ;D

But, that is why I don't stay there.

Emil,

A Micorwave isn't a deal killer.   But a fridge is a MUST.  I try to eat a decent diet and if I go out I end up eating too much rich food.

Mr B Cool:

Can kinda understand your reluctance, but not really, I guess! Why should you give a damn about what your golf buddies think and say?  I agree it's envy, but so what? Poor boys! I've seen some of the dogs some of them have been with.

As already mentioned, I have seen some of the stunners you have had and I know that I was jealous, cuz I am better looking than you!

Again, so what? It's Thailand and the ladies are a large part of what it's about. Seriously, let 'em talk. WOW! I would love to have that kind of talk,"Did you see that lady Mr. BCool is with!"

Nuff said.

Jerry,

You keep saying your better looking than me.   OK.  I'll grant you that.  But I gotta tell ya, neither of us i s getting any stunners based on looks.  8) 8) 8)

I'm giving serious thought to Lews again.  I guess I could get over the lack of privacy in down season.  Got to think on it.

If you can give up the microwave, or by one for a measly 3,500 baht at Big C up the street, I have three recommendations for your other requirements:

1. Sabai Inn

2. Sabai Inn

3. Sabai Inn

Any of those will do you nicely!

dthomasss,

I, like you, am a big fan of the Sabai Inn, however, the one gripe I have is the in-room thermostat.  It is either on or off and only the fan speed is adjustable (low-medium-high).  I'm not sure if the Sabai Lodge has better controls; if they do, it might be more to the liking of jimmybcool.

Other than that, Baht for Baht, the Sabai Inn is hard to beat and the location is one of the most convenient for a whole host of activities. (Lots of Bars, 4 Soapies, Big C, Cinemas, Bruno's, PIC, Green Tree, Bowling, Snooker, Belgian Embassy etc, etc.....)

How about Sabai Lodge?  The regular rooms don't have microwaves, but, as one poster said, just go buy a cheap one.  Anyway, the place is halfway down Soi 2, is quiet, and the price is right.  I'd stay there again.

As for the thermostats?  As I remember, there's a control box next to the bed.  You can control both the temperature and the speed of the fan, if I remember correctly (but maybe I don't)

Guys,

Sabai Inn/Lodge are in the running.  Thanks.  I am quite aware of location as I usually stay right up the road at Pinewood Condos.  It is a GREAT location.  My biggest concern is the quality of rooms in Sabai Inn/Lodge.  I've read the  reports and saw some who were less than thrilled.

Then again, if anyone had asked me after my first trip to Thailand I would have said ALL the hotels suck.  One learns to adjust ones standards a bit.  ;)

I guess the microwave isn't mandatory.  The real issue is I do want to store fruits/veggies/milk and some dishes and eat at home sometimes.

If you know of places that cost a bit more, I am not short of dosh.  I won't pay the Dusit prices, but I can go to 30-35K a month for a nicer place.  But it would have to be nicer than Pinewood to justify moving.

Cheers

Hey Guys

Stayed at the Sabai Inn in February and agree with Tom..the Air Con Controls suck (no temperature control).  Another couple of grips...the towels smell...and they try not to change the bed linen...also found that they frequently swapped the top and bottom sheets around...not nice to bring a TG back to your room and you throw the covers back and theres a big blood stain on the top sheet (was the bottom sheet the night before)...sought of puts a downer on things....

Well, I suspect i will need to check into my regular hotel, Pinewood, then go hunting for a deal in person.  None of the websites offer enough p ictures of the rooms, and there is no way to judge if it feels like home from the internet.

Rex, thanks for the photos.  It looks nicer than I thought it would so I will check Sabai Inn/Lodge out.

But, I'm still open to other ideas guys so if anyone else reads this don't stop now.

Think upscale a bit.  I'll pay a bit more for peace and quiet.

I did see one place that looked sort of interesting.  It's on Soi 3, I think, on the north side closer to Beach Road than to 2nd Road.  It's a new pink high-rise building that looks like it might be condos of some sort.  There wasn't a sign out front, but I did see a front desk, if I'm not mistaken.  Perhaps they have monthly rentals.

It is ideally located.  And what I see interests me.  But their webpage is weird.  Either I need some additional software to see whats up, or they effed up their site.

Could you go there and tell me if you keep reading ads for Macromedia flash player or generator or something?

sandyspringhotel.com

BTW, whats the rate for this place and are they guest friendly?

Thanks

Hello,

I contacted sandyspringhotel last week,

here is their answer:

" Thank again for your e-mail.  I would like you to join

"  our member of the hotel and you will get special

"  discount.  The fee for the member is 350 baht and

"  last for 1 year.

"

"  Standard room rate

"  standard room      1200 baht/room/night

"  Deluxe room         1500 baht/room/night

"  Suite room           2500 baht/room/night

"  Standard room on 2nd and 3rd at the front view

"   are 850 baht/room/night.

"

"  Member room rate

"  Standard room      990 baht/room/night

"  Deluxe room         1200 baht/room/night

"  Suite room           1990 baht/room/night

Good info.  BUT, I still think something is weird with the website.  I see a few small pictures, but weird text next to them unrelated to descrivbing the pictures.

Is that what you see?  OK if so, just wondered if my computer is messed up.

One thing I can't tell is if a refridgerator is in each room.  This is critical for me.

Hello Jimmybcool,

I cant say for the refridgerator in this hotel but I would be very very surprised I they don't have it !  ???

Even cheap rooms like APEX-Hotel (450 bahts) or TIMS (400 bahts) have BIG refrigerators  :D

Only problem is I heard that some hotels do not like you put your own bottles in it...  and sometimes they have excessive prices for their bottles...   :(

Only tried 5 hotels in Pattaya, but never had problem to fill the fridge with drinks from Big C ou 7/11.

I just push all their bottles in a corner of the fridge and do not touch them during my stay  :)

Regards,

Oukiva

Jimmy,

I think I mentioned it to you before, check out the Marine Yensabai Mansion it just opened this January.  Large room with large balcony with a view of the bay if your on one of the higher floors with an odd numbered room.  Large frig with small freezer on top and produce bin below.  A/C that is adjustable and doesn't turn off when you leave the room.  You should be able to get a room for around 650 and maybe lower because of the length of your stay.  Quite area and only about 200 + meters from FLB.

Emil,

Right now I got Marine Yensabai  and Sandy Springs at the head of the list.  My only concern about Marine is location.  I'm not sure how far into Yen Sabai I wish to walk home late at night.  :(

I mean, I could get eaten by the big bad wolf.   :D

Do you have a link to Marine Yensabai Mansion?  I've searched and come up blank.

Thanks

Jim,

It's located about 100 meters in.  I never felt threatened but I was always with a TG late at night.  They didn't have a website or email when I was there in March.  Again, no pool, but you didn't list that as one of your requirements.
