What rate Bht against the £ are available in the resort. Creeping up again and I can get 51.5 tempted to change all my money here while the good rate exists

TT exchange on soi Buakhao was showing 54.00 about 1 hour ago i expect the bank booths are about 0.5 baht lower. I would never change sterling for baht in the UK, you will always get a better rate in Thailand because of the smaller spread between the buying and selling rates.

Have a good trip.

As tallguy said, don't get baht in your home country..when you land, you can change money at the airport...lots of booths and a decent rate that is almost certainly higher than you can get at home.

Bangkok Bank will give you 53.4 at the moment, so the independents will be offering more.

That rate is crap and reflects rates outside Thailand.

It took a sudden jump up when the 'State of Emergency' was declared, and I did a quick transfer request on Internet banking. They seem to have reduced their charges BUT make you wait longer as there is no sign of it!

I thought the OP was looking to the future. IE a visit planned in a couple of months, not now; And the feelings from those in situ as to whether the rate is likely to fall again. My gut feeling is that should the current nausea disappear, then the rates will drop again. (Pound is actually still weak and UK Tories will try to ensure it remains so). However, it is hard to see the current problems in Thailand going away any time soon, so if your visit is within the next couple of months I would also suggest waiting until you arrive in Thailand to exchange. As an aside you can get a rate of 53.8 Baht in the UK at the moment, provided you use one of the brokers and exchange a fairly large wad.

Well actually the £ has shown some strength in the last 4 days and someone I know (and I hope he knows) thinks it should be higher relative to the USD.

And yes, if the problems in Thailand are resolved the Baht will come back.....

Now 51.5 looks good relative to some months back, but currently I am trying to snare 54+ at the Thailand end. :deal:

I can't envisage any circumstances that's going to bring that situation about any time soon. They're meant to be joining the AEC in less than 12 months time and the government is totally impotent (and is likely to remain so for the foreseeable future). The other main players (Indonesia, Philippines, Vietnam and Malaysia) must be laughing (or crying).

I received some £ here in Thailand today. Got 54.25 baht.

Pleasant surprise was no charge at the UK end.

Travelling in two weeks. The pound is currently getting stronger so if it looks like the tories are going to work their " magic" and collapse the pound buy it before I travel.

I would say in your case (2 weeks time) defo leave it until you get to Thailand.
