Watching the Seahawks vs Packers Season opener via XBMC on my Minix X8 TV receiver in the comfort of my home..woo hoo!

Streaming video is smooth and clear.

I'm picking up a stream from Sky Sports and the presenters are speaking Brit! Commercials are from the UK too. This is a hoot.

Maybe you mean Megabits, as in bandwidth?

 

If so, the stream was quite compact...about 200 KB (1.6 Mb)..smooth and clear and not buffering.

I used the XBMC addon SPORTSDEVIL and selected Live Sports, American Football (or NFL, I forget), then picked SKY SPORTS stream (or something like that)...clicked a few streams till one popped up.

 

I really didn't think it would work, but was amazed it did.

No idea. This box doesn't connect natively to 3G or 4G networks..only WiFi, and the presumption is it's not data limited.

 

So, if you were to use this, you'd have to have a wireless connection to a router connected to a network that wasn't charging by bytes transferred (if you didn't want to worry about data usage).

GB could be the total data transmitted for the duration of the game, which is how ISPs determine their charges and package limits..

In your case perhaps you mean 200 KB/s or 1.6 Mb/s which is the speed of the data transmission.

 

Bandwidth actually used to mean the frequency range of a system but nowadays is applied to the bit rate or data rate in computing.

A parallel I can think of might be .water, the bandwidth would be the flow rate (litres/min), but you would be charged on the total number of litres used, ie ratextime.

Sounds like you do understand it.

Not sure what the data limit is on my Internet connection, if there is one. Some of them do not publish one yet will crank down your speed (bandwidth) when you hit one they have imposed.

This internet TV sounds interesting, but I already have 2 sources of TV at the house, True TV came with the internet package, or the internet came with the TV package, and I have Sophon cable, and still no live EPL!!! And enough remotes to confuse me.

I guess it depends where you live and if you have the free WiFi. As for myself, I'm out in the boonies and am limited to 5 GB per month. There is no WiFi here. Sometimes it is indeed a sacrifice to be able to live in God's country.

I didn't know of any ISP service (aside from mobile data) that had data transfer capacity limits, so the question confused me. I see your point...

 

Okay, rough calculation..if the stream was 200 KB/sec, and the game was 3 hours, then you have roughly (3 hrs * 60 minutes * 60 seconds * 200) KB bytes transferred..that's 2,160,000 KiloBytes which would be a bit over 2 GB, though probably somewhat less.

 

I guess you could watch 2 1/2 games a month
