The Air Asia ASEAN Pass Offers One Month of Flying for $160

Recommended Posts

I searched and didn't see this posted in Airline Discussion so here goes:

The Air Asia ASEAN (Association of South East Asian Nations, consisting of Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand, Brunei, Cambodia, the Philippines, Laos, Myanmar and Vietnam) pass offers one month of flying for $160. For 30 days, you get 10 credits worth of flights to redeem. Flights cost between 1 and 3 credits each. For example, Bangkok to Ho Chi Minh is one credit, whereas Bangkok to Bali is 3 credits. You can alternatively buy 20 credits for $290. You must book your flights 14 days or more before the departure date, and the pass is valid on more than 140 routes.

Looks good price wise but it doesn't include taxes, airport fees, etc. The other challenge is it appears you have to keep going and can't double back so you can't base yourself in BKK and take return trips out to several different cities.

Hmm, Just for interest, I see you can travel from Bangkok to Siem Reap (or Phnom Penh) but there is no way you can get back from, or even out of, Cambodia. There are no flights FROM Cambodia listed in the schedule. WTF?

They fly daily to & from Phnom Penh from Don Muang (DMK). I am booked in May for 8 days.

Does it say in the rules & conditions that you cannot go and return from the same city?

This is the only restriction I see close to that.

  • Each route can only be redeemed once using an AirAsia Asean Pass.

So you cannot use an "out and back" more than once to the same city. You can use DMK as a base to any city you like but not more than once.

I think you are correct on both issues (above) 4 Wheels. I did notice (later) this statement above the schedule :

"Here's a complete list of credit amounts for routes that are redeemable with AirAsia Asean Pass (also applicable for return journey):" So, yes, you could get out of Cambodia by returning to Bangkok, but only once using that route.

I apologise. I think I mis-read their rules and you can't repeat the same route but you can go out and back from one base to different cites. I may have had RTW ticket rules in my head when I read it. They could make it clearer but it appears my interpretation was wrong.

The pass is a good deal, especially the 20 credit pass if you were to visit several cities over two months that require 3 credits each way.

The absence of a 2 credit price point is a bit bizarre. But in some cases you can do your own. For example, Phuket to Chiang Mai non stop costs 3 credits but if you go via Don Mueang it will cost 2 credits.

Thanks for posting the info.

Sure guys.

I wish I had seen this deal before I bought tickets for myself and TGF for Phnom Penh. I spent the cost of the 20 credit pass just for our round trip tickets. If I had seen this,I may have dumped her boney ass and made other plans. LOL I still may leave her behind in Korat though as I made plans while using wrong head..

1 upside to these passes is that they are good for 1 year bur the BIG caveat is that they are only good for a 30 & 60 day period. Would be amazing if you could spread the flights over a year.
