BTW it seems you've been unlucky with the fares. I've been flying out of Thailand for many years now and NEVER had a problem with getting the ticket I've needed at a good price. I almost always buy 1 year tickets, which have no penalties for date changes. Always at under £500. All decent airlines.

What were the circumstances in which you couldn't find a ticket? What fares rules were they that 'wiped you out'?

The fares that I've posted are not the ones behaving like a 'whore's knickers'. They are readily available with the travelling periods next to them.

I did post a smaller list of more restricted fares afterwards though.

secondly, and the point you seem to be missing, is that my suggestion that you buy a Bkk-Lon-Bkk ticket is that it will allow you to reserve your December return almost a year in advance, with normally no cost for date changes.(Many people will travel December 19th to Jan 4th. Many will be paying through the nose for this journey. )

 

Why it has turned into a huge debate, I don't know. But I also don't mind. There's nothing wrong with intelligent debate.

After training on Samui, I fly to U Tapao and stay in Pattaya to visit friends and keep up my training before heading to Bkk and...

It would be pretty pointless stating I could provide a fare on X or Y airline when it isnt that fare or isnt available. However. Its also worth pointing out that a fare and routing which is available today or even at, say 9.00AM, might not be available tomorrow, or at 9.30AM.

Untill October I remain under contract and am restricted to advising/selling to a closed market. Thats why I dont mind passing on info on fares available from different companies. Come November, things will be different.

I managed to get a short notice (less than 1 week) flight to Bangkok at £505 inc taxes with Gazelle Travel in Newcastle. They also quoted me £469 inc taxes with China Airlines from a local airport via Amsterdam. I chose KLM at £505 because the departure time suited my schedule. This price (I think) is available throughout September as KLM have a promotion at the moment.

 

I have used Turkish Airlines frequently in the past as they have always come up with a good price at between £400-£450 inc taxes. However, they don't offer local departures and didn't have availability at the time of booking. The extra £50 or so I have spent with KLM is what I will save not having to travel to Heathrow. Also, the somewhat groggy journey home will be shortened by some 4 hours as I live in the Midlands. A very welcome travel amendment.

 

I cannot wait for that first cold beer at about 3pm on Tuesday in Bangkok. For some reason I just don't seem to get jetlag when arriving in LoS. It must be something to do with the local brew!
