The last few trips I’ve made have used Thai economy; I like the 9.30 night flight from LHR. I see that EVA is about £100 cheaper and the same departure time. It’s still a direct flight 11.25 hours. I never watch movies, just listen to music drink a few beers and sleep. I’ve read quite a bit about EVA deluxe but not economy, what do you think?

Thai economy is much better, leg room wise than EVA economy other than that there is not much difference.

If a couple of inches extra space is important go with Thai otherwise EVA is fine and an extra £100 to spend in LOS.

I won't fly EVA economy again. It was too cramped. Fortunately the flight from TPE to BKK had only 100 people, and I was able to sleep on a middle row of seats.

i have flown eva,china,klm,economy to bkk they are the

only direct flights from amsterdam china is the best

its economy but the treat you ok .eva and klm treat

you like a second class citizen klm is a little bit better

than eva just and eva gets in about half4 in the morning

my first choice would be china, not having hillys

On paper, EVA and thai Economy seating pitch is the same, 33/34".

A girlfriend travelled with EVA in Economy and wasn't too impressed with the food or anything else for that matter.

Thai are ok, at least food wise. No seatback TVs on either airline's economy cabin.

I flew with Cathay Pacific.. Let's just say they had an off day.

Thai and EVA seat-fits in the economy cabin are identical.  The only thing that will make any difference is the thickness of the seats and since both airlines are operating on the older, padded-style economy seating any difference between the two is pretty negligible.  Given that both also have a pretty basic entertainment system, EVA's current price and the fact that, unlike Thai, its airmiles can be easily redeemed for upgrades would appear to make it the better bet IMHO.

Even worse than the old Tarom who used to have old Russian planes with plastic bomber nav domes under the front of the aircraft (which I still suspect was where their navigator sat with a world Atlas and a pair of bins)

I fly Eva all the time from SFO to BKK and while the flight times for departure and arrival are very favorable and the main reason I use them, they are an economy airline in all other aspects.  If you weigh more than 200 lbs.,  or are 6 feet tall, you will probably not enjoy your trip in economy very much.

 

In addition, their food isn't great and the coffee is probably the worst I have ever tasted anywhere.  

 

BUT, if you take the evergreen deluxe class for a couple hundred dollars more, you aren't bothered by noisy kids (I don't think I have ever flown economy where I didn't have a kid crying 10 feet or less away from me) , have a nice big lounge chair to sleep in and the food is slightly better.  And the tea is passible.

Have flown Eva twice now from LHR. 1st time in economy, food was ok and seats comfortable. Flight was full but apart from queue for check in no problems.In November I tried out Eva Evergreen Deluxe. Thought it well worth the extra £150. Seperate check in both ways,leg room best ever experienced and food was good too. Being first off aircraft also a bonus.

Will travel Evergreen again on my next trip end of May.

Yes.. Same food and service as economy.. Deluxe just gets you bigger seats. Well worth the money.

I used to fly Eva Evergreen Deluxe a few years ago

( have switched to China in the recent past) and the service used to be excellent. Recent reports suggest standard of service has declined considerably so would appreciate feedback from someone who has used service recently. Would still recommend China for seat size and service but have got fed up with my suitcases arriving 24 hours after me.

I checked out EVA evergreen for Dec,anything after and including 4th Dec is £1160,so it's back to ECON for Christmas. :'( :'( :'(

I fly EVA regularly and tried China last year.  The product offered then (effectively Dynasty Class with 20 kg baggage) beat Evergreen Deluxe hands down.  China have recently downgraded that product (changed the AMS service to 3 classes from 4) in respect of the in-flight service and lounge access but retained the previous price.  China's cabin crew (Thai-based) however leave EVA in the shade.

 

The main reason I stick with EVA is to continue to accumulate miles to upgrade to their premium laurel business class when it is introduced on the London route - I believe it is being introduced to Europe on the Vienna route next month (Feb).

 

For folks travelling from the regional airports I think it really comes down to a preference for the outbound night flight (EVA) or the daytime flight (China).  EVA's summer schedule also makes it difficult to make connections to the regions so China is probably the better option in that respect.

Terminal 2.  They went through a phase last year of occasionally going into Terminal 1 (the bags still came out in Terminal 2) but I think that was to do with the building works at the time on Terminal 2's new pier.
