Songkran just around the corner...

...What are your plans?.

Despite having a chunk of time off in April, I've decided not to visit because Songkran and the crowds grate on my tits. Instead I'll be at home in blighty putting the finishing touches to my classic car and starting my next project which will be an inevitable money pit, a 1974 Norton Commando 850 (50 Ci for you yanks).

Questions I'd ask so I don't feel too bad when spending money and getting covered in oil and shit are;

Is town busy at the moment?

Are the numbers of Russians / Indians / Chinese (delete as applicable) on the increase?

How does this high season compare to the one last year?.

Cheers

Butch

I can only say walking through Walking Street the relatively early hour of 8pm I encountered hoards of Chinese tourists, but riding through the other streets yesterday afternoon it appeared quiet.

1974 Norton Commando 850... impressive project. My pal did a Norton Trident and that was way back about when your one was built!

I'll give you a shout when it's done. Sad really, I'm starting with a frame , matching engine and number and some bits. I'm torn between restoring a piece of History and 2 years of hardship, heartache (I get attached to my resto projects and shitty when it doesn't go right) and expense versus one more trip to patts a year... Norton it is then. Irony being it's worth more in parts than a whole, but I'm not as mercenary, prefer to see a bike on the road than another victim of part donorship.

It'll have to be a full restoration, nut and bolt cradle to grave, but bikes are easier than cars. The other choice is a Honda 400/4. This is a seller not a keeper BTW.

Pattaya will be there in the meantime, I just wanted to feel better while getting skinned knuckles and dirty fingernails lol.

Coincidentally my old friend who did the Trident had a Honda CB500 4 (if I recall correctly) as his run about, but the Trident became his fair weather favourite.
