Looks like the refurbished Big C on second road opened yesterday and is called Central Marina.

2-floors with more space probably until they get more vendors and 4-floors of multi story car parking.

Still some work going on until all the stores inside and out are filled.

Few pics

I used to love having a dark beer sitting outside the German microbrewery there .....and having food inside at night listening to the band......It was replaced by Toys R Us, then Pizza Hut and now this.......All lacking a heart and soul..

Do tourists really want local food carts removed from the street both here and in Bangkok..?? ...If this is what they want why not stay at home ???

Biggest loss there is that Fuji has gone, one of my favourite places to eat when grocery shopping. Looks like food courts have a lot more choice though and a few restaurants opening later including a steak place in Feb. The new multi storey car park will help business there for sure. Walked down to the Bay shopping center on Beach road afterwards, Only MacDonalds and Starbucks open. Looks like a repeat of the Avenue problems.

"Central" Marina in North Pattaya....makes total sense

"Central" is the corporation, not a descriptive name. There are 29 Central Malls in Thailand.

This renovated "Marina" location was completed rather quickly probably to beat the opening of the new Terminal 21 Mall. I also miss the little outdoor beer garden with the band, but most of the time it was empty so business-wise i can't blame them.... Pattaya is becoming a mini-bangkok of malls with a waterfront. Progress....

I think the micro-brewery there was ahead of its time....I think it closed much the same time that Brauhaus on Beach road opened .....But it had to compete with the soi 2 + 3 bars so not much chance of anybody enjoying a decent dark homebrew beer (they weren't called craft beers then I think) when they could have a Singha and BJ for the same price across the street

The beer bars also have cover. Even with an umbrella it's not comfortable sitting outside in the rain trying to enjoy the music and a drink.... In Pattaya, six months a year, there are 15 or more days of rain per month. Probably also contributes to "The Avenue" mall lack of success.

We are a beach town, but the water can be comfortably viewed from within Starbucks or one of the beachside beer bars.
