Opinions on Northwest Airlines?

Thinking of flying them JFK to BKK. Have flown Cathy and EVA in the past and been happy with both, but the fares right now on NWA are so low I am considering them. Any opinion/information on Northwest good or bad would be appreciated. Thanks. Big Kev [smiley=cheers.gif]

Their economy "seat pitch", which is the distance measured from one point on the seat in front of you to the same point on your seat, is 31".  That is the airline industry minimum and is VERY uncomfortable.  EVA features 33" I believe.

 

Also, all their stewardesses are ugly old hags.

NWA is no better or worse then United, Thai, BA. Only Singapore is better in coach then the others. Service is ok and the ladies will pour as many drinks as you want.

I flew NWA last time from the east coast, USA.  I've also flown Thai Air from Los Angeles.  I liked Thai Air better, but I'll probably use NWA again so long as they keep having good deals.  Just the other day they sent me an email offering a R/T ticket for $458, I believe, from DC.

I had to pass, though.

I fly NWA most of the time, they have a killer FF program, and I have one of their Visa cards also. Thai is nice too, and way better or at least younger stewardesses.

I have flown Northwest twice.  It is not too bad, but there is only one TV in coach.  Also the flight attendents are all built like linebackers.  Tokyo to Bangkok there were some cuties. Depending how big you are Coach can be very uncomfortable.  I will fly them once more to get the free trip.  If I had a choice I would stick to EVA.   It seems like I can always book economy and get free upgrades on the 2 long haul flights.  And I am a member of the evergreen club and stay in their lounge. Lately it did not matter because I sleep all the way from LA to Bangkok (no joke) here is the key: 1or2 Xanax, 2 benedril, 1 melitonin.  I was out.   Another way I save money (SOMETIMES) is I will book out of LA and take a Southwest to LA.

I fly NW every time I go to the LOS ( this May will be my 8th time), and with the added FF miles, it is my airline of choice (more for the miles than the service - which is probably just average).   They also have fare discounts often.  My NW flight at the end of May was only $445 ($398 + $47 tax)   No matter what airline you choose - stick with it as the miles will add up faster.

 

I did get upgraded due to an over booking once and ended up in Bus. class.  This was excellent, better than in first class on domestic US flights and a ton better to the intl. coach that I am used to.

 

My biggest complaint on NW is that their BKK-NRT outbound flight is at 6:10 am.  If you are in BKK then it means you have to get up at 3-3:30am, check out, catch taxi & get to the airport in time to catch your intl. flight - ugh.  I have started just staying in Pattaya, partying till 1-1:30am, then checking out and catching a cab (and hopefully a small nap) before I get to the BKK airport.  It works a bit better, but those early departures are a real pain in the ass.

Flew NW on the last trip and doing it again this trip.

You get in late at 11:55 pm and leaving you have to

catch the 6:10 am flight as Zeus has said.

 

My incoming flight was  2 hours late waiting on the LA

fight to get in (storm). Got into hotel about 3:30 am.

Shower, Nana parking lot 1 beer and 15 minutes back

at hotel with TG for the night.

 

I look at it like this; less time spent in traffic coming and

going at those hours. Left Pattaya at 1:30 am to BKK.

 

I was told to do carry on and sit in front of the plane.

Did both. Only problem is you get off the plan onto waiting buses

which then take you to the terminal. I guess getting on the first bus

helped. Less than 5 minutes at immigration. Never read anything

about the bus to terminal before.

I agree with the others that it is best to pick an airline and stick with it so the ff miles add up. I use NWA and have their Visa card. ALL of my spending goes on the card: food, gas, dinners out, hell I even pay my phone and cable bills on it. And then pay off the balance at the end of each month so I don't get hit with the interest.

 

I also plan on making 4 trips to LOS each year. After 2 trips you go into Silver Elite where you get 1.5 miles for each mile, after the third trip your upgraded to Gold (2 miles per mile) and after 4 trips your into Platinum (2.25 miles per mile). It all adds up pretty quick.

 

I'm not using any of the miles at the moment because I want to bank as many as possible before the air fares go back up, and trust me, at some point they will. I figure at this rate I should have about 250K miles by the end of next year. It takes 60K to get a free trip...
