After reading the other thread about cheap fares on Malaysian (£315+tax from Man), it set me wondering about what the cheapest flights you`ve ever had...... I did travel on Lufhthansa 2 years ago for under £350, but a friend of mine travel with "Yugoslavian Airways" for £270, obviously a few years ago. But like CT says soon when it kicks off over in Iraq there maybe could be sub £300 quid again..........this would make the Pattaya long weekend posible  [smiley=grin.gif]! ........

After the last Gulf War BA done a "two for the price of one" offer for servicemen who had served in the Gulf.  It worked out less than £250 each.  At that time Gulf Air was the only real Middle East based airline worth considering for flights to BKK so I think it is fair to assume that the likes of Emirates, Qatar and Royal Jordanian will be chasing your custom this time round as well as the main European and Asian carriers.

Some of the airlines are already in dire financial positions and it is difficult to see all of the current players still in the market by the year end if the expected war does take place, particularly those with strong trans-Pacific and trans-Atlantic commitments.

Has anyone flown with Thai in the last few weeks?  If so, how full was the aircraft?  I cannot see how they are selling seats at the moment given their prices compared to the other carriers.

Well I flew Sri Lankan last June via Colombo and paid £355 return plus airport taxis of about £40.

Tom I am hanging on before I book my flight now, as I have a feeling I may get a really cheap ticket the way things are looking.  Would have been nice to join you and especially your Mum  ;D on your flight on 1st MAy and indeed this may still happen at a new cheap price soon.

2001 i paid £280 manchester to bkk via frankfurt with lufthansa through priceline, only downside was a 7 hour wait in frankfurt on way out and 5 hour on return but paying peanuts what do you expect.

Tom, re. your query on Thai, flew out 20/1, returned 18/2, don't think there was a spare seat, ( in economy )  however I only paid £497 incl. for class Q, whereas a couple of mates paid £480 on Gulf for roughly the same period so I think they are fairly competitive.

I am hoping to travel again in May but will hang on before booking to take advantage of any slack, who knows Evergreen may be available!

Steptoe,

Thanks for that.  It's most likely that I do most of my searches based on travel from EDI/MAN and just don't pick up on the Thai prices too often with the BA/bmi regional add-on thrown in.

Regards,

Tom

That may have been a restricted ticket Steptoe. The restrictions are no change of dates, no refunds and the ticket must be fully paid within 14 days of booking. Did your ticket have these restrictions?

Woody, yes you are correct, all those restrictions applied, a ticket  with three month validity and flexible return date would have cost £567 for that same period.

Do you or Tom know whether it is really necessary to reconfirm these restricted date tickets? I always do, just in case, but it seems a bit pointless, being as you have to fly on that date or not at all.

Reconfirming depends on the particular airline. For Thai Airways reconfirming is not required.....  but with the world situation like it is, when you are out in LOS, it is not a bad idea to reconfirm because departure times can change. Most travel agents will reconfirm for about 100-150baht and they should tell you the latest departure/check-in times when they do.

I am departing here(USA) in May for BKK on Northwest.  The cost was $49.  (I had to spend 120,000 miles to get it, however)  Jimmy

I mananged four free trips (with $30-40 for fees) on Northwest the last 2 1/2 years from mileage awards.  The best paid deal involved a bribe from Cathay to give my seat up on an oversold flight.  I paid $824,  they offered me $400 cash (not a voucher but 4 $100 bills) and an upgrade to business class to travel the following day.  Business class for $424 net.

i flew british airways direct in march 1998 for 299.00 pounds return.

the only restriction was that i had to stay longer than 4 days but not more than 10. that suited me down to the ground because it was just a quick in between visit.

Best deal i ever got was on the now defunct Highland Express. I heard 2 stewardesses talking in the pub on a Thursday night, saying that because the Saturday was 4 July HE were doing Prestwick - Newark for £149 return.

I was due to stop for vacation on Friday so I booked on Friday, flew Saturday.

Now the real good deal kicks in, they charged my credit card twice, FU number 1,  >:( I called and created hell, so they credited me twice (now I have flown free! ;D) Being honest I told them, so they credit me again ::)

Now they have paid me to fly with them :D

A couple of months or so later the company went bust, now I wonder why ;)

Wouldn't it be great if they were still operating and to BKK at that.
