In another life I did a bit of winter camping. Used tents, snow trenches and caves. By far the snow cave was the warmest of the lot.

Or course it did help to have a couple of bed warmers with me. Pic from another camping trip.

 

Reminds me of Northern British Columbia. One week it was -40f, so I flew to Reno,  and kept warm at Mustang Ranch.

I have spent winters in Oulu and Harbin which were bloody cold but were 20 Degrees (C) warmer than there !!!

One sunny October day, I still remember seeing a 1000+ pound grizzly bear rolling in the grass. The next day, I awoke to 3 feet of snow, howling wind, and sub zero temperature.
