Hiring DVD players ?

Hey all again :)

 

I stayed at the Queen Vic on Soi 6 last year and was impressed with my room. Mostly because it had a DVD player in it ! Great way to spend an early afternoon watching your new DVDs, and your TGs love it too :)

 

This year I will be staying at 2 places, the Dynasty Lodge on soi 13 and Flipper House on , of course, soi 7 (got a mini suite there). Queen Vic has no pool, and I do like to take a dip in the hot thai sun :)

 

Does anyone happen to know if these places offer DVDs for their occupants ?

 

If not, is there a place you can rent one from ? Blockbusters perhaps ?

As I'm only going for 2 weeks I don't intend to buy one . I just read the thread below regarding buying DVD players. If it is possible, I would prefer to hire one.

Blockbusters do rent them sometimes.Though when I tried they wanted my passport.So that was the end of that conversation

There are other places where you can rent.Though to be honest I have forgotten where!

Check on E-Bay for one. I just got a Mini DVD Player, that is "Region Free" {can be used in all regions}. It has a TV hookup and I plan to use it in Thailand. Not a big item {smaller than a laptop} and will be in the carry on for use on the trip over.

You can buy a basic dvd player for around 1500 baht in Carrefour or Tesco-Lotus. At the end of the fortnight just give it to a favoutite bar-girl.

 

btw, anyone want an almost unused Mountain-bike? PM me.

I think it is unlikely that you will get a DVD player in Carrefour for 1500 baht. You can get a portable VCD player for that price.

DVD players are likely to be 3000 baht upwards for a full size machine, 5000 for a portable.

 

For a portable Video and music solution, you can try something like this, from Carrefour at 2000 baht:

 

VCD films/Music/Karaoke are available widely in Thailand, from as little as 19 baht. Cheaper for the girl you leave it to.

A new DVD is hard to find for 1500baht ,but in one of the pawn-shops

you can have one for 1500baht.

 

There are alot of pawn-shops on 3rd road and soi Buakhao.

Mine was 4,500 Baht {Bought on E-Bay} and works great on my TV in the USA, with the DVD's I bought from Thailand...Region Free and dual voltage, 1/2 the size of a laptop...

I have a dvd/cd-rw drive on my laptop. Great way to check-out the dvd's before I head back home and the TG's seem to like playing with it as well.

 

I can load my digital pics and edit them there and burn 'em on to a cd-rw for travel. The ladies often like a copy of some of the pics as well so I burn the ones they want and drop them off at the photo shop for development. Puts a smile on their face.

See the thread by Soi 7. He brought a Cyberhome CH 300 DVD player from the States. I just bought one also for $36.95 from Best Buy and will be bringing it back with me. It is quite small but takes 120 -240 volts, is region free and plays a bunch of other stuff also.

Gotta agree with Irishman, easier to get your own at home and bring it with you. They are small and easy to bring along...Just make sure you get a Region Free player and you will be fine..
