I was not picked up by them, and they later called my hotel demanding 1000baht for them not taking me to pattaya. I waited for 10 minutes in the pickup hall, and nobody had a sign with my name.

I had to go upstairs and catch a ride from a taxi, luckily I found Paul Pat and he took me right to my hotel with out even asking for directions where it was.

I have had to block all phone calls to my name at my hotel and it is a pisser! My friends (females) cant contact me.

Avoid Khong Fa taxi!

Just read your post and I hope that does not happen to me - I've already committed myself and I will see what happens - When they called you and you explained what had happen - What was their response as to why their driver was not there.

All I got was a phone call from the lady that runs it, she said they wanted 1000bt and they wanted to send someone to pick it up. I had to "tip" the front desk people to say that I was checked out and they lost a customer. It cost me a 300bt tip (3 people, 100bt each).

I originally offered 200bt for gas and parking, but the lady insisted on 1000bt and offered to have a driver to pick it up!

That really made my holiday start off on a sour note.

This to me sums up why I never get a pre booked taxi to pick me up at the airport, too damn difficult looking for a guy holding a namecard up plus the idiots sometime go to the wrong terminal etc.

Far easier to look on the flight or by the carousel for a 'Pattaya type' traveller and share one down from one of the limo desks.

ROLAND,

You need to stop looking at your shoes when you walk. Makes it alot easier to check for your name on a placard.

I discussed this with Ting Tong when I was in town.

My experience was quite the opposite, guy standing there with my name on sign, car was a new Honda Stream, all went well and he knew how to circumnavigate the traffic to get to RG (it was a holiday weekend) so I had a very positive experience.

However, I will boycott these people as I think their business practices stink and I know Ting Tong was really worried about reprisals.

I used them yesterday and no trouble, in Pattaya 1 1/2 hours after immigration. One thing I do is email them a reminder just before I leave home.

I usually give the guy/girl a 20 and at the beginning of the trip I buy a bottle of Red Bull to help keep him awake.

One or two days before I arrive in BKK, I email Alex to remind him I'm arriving and so far I never had a problem. I would strongly recommend that no matter whose service you decide to use. Remind them.

Same here between 100 and 200 Baht, especially if its a good driver who gets me there safe! :P

Speaking of safety, I wonder how many of us ckeck to see what the tread on the tires look like. With the low prices we are charged, I'm sure that the Thais are pushing it when it comes to preventive maintenance. Getting a blowout on the expressway could ruin a vacation.

I ususally tip taxi drivers 100 baht. One guy wanted more but I wasn't having it particularly as his ability to navigate form Sukhumwit Road to the Residence Gardens was virtually non-existant. I had to tell him at one point to do a U turn on Sukhumwit Road as he had gone way past the right turn off.

:D I booked a car to pick me up on 1 May at the airport. The driver was waiting for me with my name on a placard...he had to wait a bit as my plane was late and the lineups at immigration were longer than I've usually encountered.

The trip was disaster. Not the fault of the driver or the company but that every Thai in Bangkok was on the road to Pattaya on this holiday weekend. It was bumper to bumper from BKK to Pattaya. Five hours later we arrived at my bungalow in Jomtien.

The driver was polite and I felt safe. He did ask if he could smoke four hours into the trip...I agreed and he thankfully puffed away with the window rolled down as we crept along the road.

I've used this company several times and had no problems...I see their point of view if they did indeed send a car and the person they were to pick up did not use the service, after all they do need to be paid...maybe not the entire amount but something...just my 2 cents worth.

I will never attempt travel from BKK to Pattaya on May Day again. 1luv :D

  • 3 weeks later...

I used them on 2 occasions going to Pattaya and back to the airport no problems at all, good drivers and nice comfortable cars, a confirming email seems to be the go with this company.

Those of you that use Khong Fa, Chok Dee to you!

I posted this awhile back after they gave me a very bad time, after flying 18hours, and 1 1/2 hours on a taxi at my hotel.

The irate phone call was quite discomforting, over the phone, I felt like they wanted to send the driver to:

1) collect the money

2) collect the money and give a free muay thai lesson

As a business owner, I realize that if you dont provide the service at the given time, you do not get paid, if you do not show up you dont get paid.

I was stood up at BKK and they still wanted to get paid?

More than likely. If the driver fucked up then the company is going to get some of the petrol money back from him or whatever. He'll just blame the farang.

On the other hand, there must be loads of farangs who just don't give out the correct information or decide to change plans etc. and fuck the driver off. Bit of a double edged sword in my opinion.

I never book anyone. I may stay in Bangkok then again, I might not. its just easier to pick a decent Toyota up for Bt1500/1600 or a cab for Bt1200 or so.

torrenova,

Ib the owner at Residence Garden about 18 months ago told me he was going to start requiring guys from this board and I guess other boards to give him a credit card # so he could charge all the no shows one night. I don't know if he did this.

For the experienced guys grabbing a cab is no problem since we know are way around Pattaya.

I think I will skip all the crap, and next time just go upstairs to the arrival section, and start asking who is going to Pattaya for 1200bt including tolls.

Maybe I will find another nice driver like Paul Pat?

I know that everyone is on the kickback system there, maybe I 'll try asking an airport security guard, which driver is going to Pattaya in Thai?

Paul Pat will pick up at the airport but I think probably around Bt1600 all in. His Pattaya to airport charge is Bt1200 all in.

Personally, as we do business together, I wouldn't give out his number as I suspect that there would be a large number of no shows.

Similarly, last year, there were many discussions over accommodations with some guys holding reservations in more than one place or not cancelling reservations. This sucks big time as it only pisses the owners off and raises the prices. Same same taxis.
