After the Fed in the USA announced it's 'tapering' on bond buying, the baht fell, and this morning we see a Yahoo price of 32.6 /US$ and 53.2/£ and maybe more for that Euro thingy Germany has too! I shall be interested to see what the banks are offering at 8.30am today...(oops it is Saturday!) With elections not until February and possible protests on Sunday that will keep the pressure on the baht. Is it worth sending some money over here and getting it tied up amidst all the seasonal holidays.? An opportunity for 5 baht price increase on a beer in a GGB? With more baht available to you tourists please play the LDOP with gusto and send a draft over to the curly haired little guy being neglected in a corner. Of course we Expats have lost value in our homes and baht holdings, so we will carry on griping! It's cold out too!

Yes, we used to make 'sun tea' when I was in Saudi, a place where a cold one was savoured. Copied from our American friends there. But I still found a cup of tea (hot) was something to be avoided in the USA. Probably like a cup of coffee in the UK. I should make some 'sun-tea' here in Thailand, it is the season for it now, but I don't have a big glass jug..... would a clear plastic one work?

Not really true..... 1000 baht is low-end these days in Bangkok and tourist areas of Thailand, and even high end hotels can be guest friendly. Patpong is the slight stumbling block, I always stayed around Suk/Nana.-Cowboy area, if I fancied Patpong, I would take a Tuk-tuk ot Taxi. Try this....there are some Patpong places listed although I cannot recommend them.

Many years ago, I had a strong Samsonite Suitcase, and I have one of those cable locks for the laptop. The cable went around some immovable object, the other end on the computer, that went into a padlocked carry on bag, the padlock also going over the cable....then that lot got locked into the locked suitcase. Some other stuff got chucked into the inner bag too. I felt that safer and certainly easier than carrying stuff with me in say a fanny pack. Always relieved to find a hotel room with a safe but rural Thailand didn't do them back then.

Yes, you have been delivered a cup of hot water, and frequently not hot enough to make the tea well. That is why I drink more coffee now.

The process looks a little easier now ( I perused it), and it makes more sense to me not to involve Hong Kong. One stark difference now is the need to copy every single page of the passport, to be included with the application, previously it was just the face and detail pages...(from Thailand). Wonder why they need to know everywhere I have been.... and why they do not know that already?

My last one was sent DHL from the UK to Thailand.....at my expense. A receipt was sent separately via DHL to me from Hong Kong, again at my expense, and to my annoyance.

I saw one the other day (went over it on the bike) and my first thought was it looked like a nice path for them to wheel crates of beer across Beach rd to the deck chair businesses and for loading onto boats!

How about a serviced apartment? Like Nova Park and Mind Apartments etc? I liked having the room cleaned, clean towels and sheets done by someone else when I was there for a month. Plus the availability of room service was good. Or even consider the Residence Garden!
